my 800iBook does one step in 30mins so this is a major increase in output for me and i have been waiting for it for a long time

Only Bill Gates would say that people don't really need 64 bit computing. The same "person" who said "512K should be enough for anyone.."

Except he didn't actually say that.

I referenced two statements..one of which I just read on Cnet..the other is Internet myth..
Which one are you taking issue with?
And that's not really the point is it?...the point is that we DO need 64 bit computing

I believe BG said that 640 KB would be enough for anyone. This goes back to the original IBM PC that addressed 1 MB: 640 KB for user space, and 384 KB reserved for the system. I'm not sure why they did a hard split like that.
Intel of late has been trying to tell everyone that you don't need 64-bit for the desktop. Naturally, this has nothing to do with Intel not having a 64-bit desktop CPU for sale, while IBM and AMD do. I hadn't heard that BG had joined that chorus.
One might note that True64 Linux has been out for years, while XP64 won't be out for a while yet. That couldn't have anything to do with Bill's opinion. Nope.
