I thought that everyone running a Mac and folding@home would want to know that there is a new Gromacs core which will become generally available in the next week.

It has enhancements for just about everyone, including G3s. I think you'll be impressed.
folding@home is good for you.

Everyone, install this new core ASAP

Stop your clients, delete FahCore_78.exe, and restart so it downloads the new core.

I've been benchmarking it on my G4 350 - protein p254_p341_gnra_den
The last time I ran Gromacs, it gave 3.5-6 score/day. After two frames, I'm getting 11.9 score/day, or 2-3x as fast on my 7400 G4.

Anyone with a G3, G4 7455, or G5 please post your improvements - if any. But this looks very good for Mac teams.

G3 400
Old: 4:10 per frame
New: 1:45 per frame

Just upgraded my G4 500, I'll see how it goes.

Edit:
G4 500
Old: 2:00 per frame
New: :46 per frame

Your G3/400 time is great. Those were taking 1:23 minutes per percent on my G4/800, so that's a phenomenal increase without AltiVec. I recently upgraded the G3/400 to a G3/800 and it processes Tinker work units 7 percent faster than the G4/800.

Both of my current work units on the dual G4/800 are finishing in about 37 percent of the earlier time.
folding@home is good for you.

If you started up fresh last night and you only see the 65 core then you are set. You have only worked on the one protein since then and it used the Tinker core. When you get a Gromacs protein then it will download the hot new Gromac core.

The new core does not seem to save it's state on shutdown. It resumes from the last completed frame.

The previous gromacs core would save on shutdown, and resume from the last step rather than the last frame. That made it much more suitable for use with the screen saver, or anyone who starts and stops it frequently.

FWIW:

Dual 1GHz G4:

CPU#1: Project #1011, time went from 1:02 to 0:13 (4.8x)

CPU#2: Project #355, time went from 0:58 to 0:20 (3x)

I like it.

tell me that is 1hr 2mins to 13 mins and the same for the other and not seconds otherwise i will be very disapointed with my G5's 3 mins per frame
