Boy, Raven and CobraMac have really been adding some new hardware to their farms! You guys keep pouring it on! I am so far behind you guys I never hope to catch you anyway. Now Scott though.....

We really need to get the team spirit pumping here! This place is DEAD! The other MacNN forums are really lively and active, lots of posts (almost all of them stupid beyond belief), but at least something is going on there.

I was amazed to hear of users being banned in the other parts of the MacNN forum for their postings, when is the last time someone got banned here for being rowdy ? It is nice to have serious discussions, but guys, we act like old men over here, and I am relatively sure that I am the oldest one in here at the ripe old age of 49! Too young to vegetate!!!!

Here Here! My attempt at rousing conversation through my Ubero guess the date competition failed, and no one seems to be interested in heading over to the OCAddition forums and pointing as we fly by.

Would a race help? Last time we got too bogged down in rules and categories. This time, no rules. Just need some support from Reader to get the graphs to work. We DO (or at least did) have a comptition page after all.

True, this place is dead.
Actually if you lokk there are not that many people active in various DC projects but still the team as a whole pulls some nice numbers. And of course the stats are amazing.

One of the problems is probably challenges. SETI team has no upside, we have been passed by numerous teams over last year without any life. And we haven't been able to leverage up from the awsome stats.

Did anyone say merger?

Well, we roasted Ars, but they are suffering from a post shortage too. Maybe we could post juicy gossip on fellow members...

We lost power and interest in SETI after the client 3.x fiasco, the Mac had a serious advantage under the 2.x clients. After 3.x raw MHz made the most difference, and it was hard to justify participation when Celerons could beat PowerMacs costing 5x as much. I'm hoping the G5 and closing of the MHz gap will finally fix it. Some cross-platform BOINC benchmarks might be revealing too.

Has anyone done some SETI benches with the G5?

wat project are we talking about here cause i remember not to long ago that we tried to get something together in F@H but it never came into being the best would be:
simple power legues
if you get more power then you go up a legue
race in the legues
maybe some form of reward at each year review?

just some thoughts

I have a Dual G5 here at work, but I have only been able to get dFold to work on it behind our firewall. It does do a much better job than my Dual G4/533, but it still is slower than my XP3000. I wish I could get the newly optimized folding client to work on the G5 here! That would be interesting.

I like the idea of a race, not too many rules to be fun, but enough to entice everyone to try, even some groups like when we last attcked Scott in SETI! (my farm has grown, wanta rematch Scott?)

I think it might be good if we each started visiting the other MacNN forums and recruiting on our own, if we had a Team challenge from another team in one of the DC areas to talk about. Are there any teams we are close to that we could beat if we had more help? Especially PC teams, if we recruited on our Mac centric forums for people wanting to smack PC/Windoze teams around a little, might work...

CobraMac must have just set a new team record! At 90 Ghz of power and an average of over 1000 points a day, it is VERY impressive. How are you doing it and what kind of machines did you add? Please tell me that these are all Dual G5s!

And who might that be that would claim the "oldest" spot? Surely not you, Shaktai? Most of the guys in here seem to be in college or maybe just out. Some are still in high school and some need to go back to grammar school! This really seems to be a young man's arena these days....

Funny, I don't remember getting old.....

Pass, no time to worry about DC. Apparently a fair amount of my farm has been offline for a while, I didn't even notice. I should have time to stop and breathe around mid April, ask me then? Not sure if I'll be adding to my farm within the next year, I may have been fired from work. Not sure, have to stop in tomorrow (haven't been there in months).

No issues with that here, just don't do anything unprofessional. We need to get a recruiting run going. Last time no one was willing to head it or the race, and I just don't have time.

Feel free to pass me, I won't be adding new hardware. Going to try and get the other machines running, maybe in a week or two.

He must have added Rhode Island, too! He is way up there to over 130 Ghz now. Is there an overall page where one can the folding rate of our peers that are not on our team? I would love to see how many people are actually folding at that rate.

If you parse this page it will give you an idea of the top 100, which some of us will hit within the next 6 months, I believe.
http://folding.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/searchstats

The top person, plext, is listed as having 650 active processors in the last week.

OneMacGuy is listed as having 1. How many do you actually have?
cobramac is listed as having 48.
Raven is listed as having 21.
I have 13

I do not know exactly, but let me try and list them:

2 XP3000s (majorly overclocked)
2 XP2500s (minorly overclocked)
2 XP2200s
2 XP2100s
4 XP1900s
2 XP1700s
2 Duron 950s
3 P4 2.0s (all slightly overclocked)
1 P4 1.7
1 Celeron 933
1 G4 Dual 533 (My Main Mac)

Probably more that I cannot remember, I often leave it running on customer's computers, with their permission of course, after I work on them. Most of the PC's are running Windows XP and are loaded up as a service with Firedaemon (Thanx, Scott!). Some are actually running the Screensaver version, since they like the graphics on screen.

He must be co-opting the entire northeast, he is up to 150 Ghz now. Most impressive ramp up I have ever seen in any DC project! And all Macs too!!! Way to go CobraMac!!! Can't wait to see him bring the rest on line!
