Tis the season for buying stuff. This means new computers. We shall recruit these new members. But let's not ask them to join, then forget about them. Instead, let us get them interested, then hook them in the most addictive part of all, a race.
We'll plan the recruiting here, with the goal being to get them to participate, both in the DC project, and more specifically, in the race.
See the other thread for the race info. I haven't written the post yet, so no link

The thread in powermac is designed to be long term, but for the duration of this run, I'll drop the thread, then sticky it again once we are done.

Oh yeah, we'll start the morning of Dec 25th if no one has any objections.

I think the recruiting sounds like a great idea. What we need are a good list of teams that cover a large demographic of this site.

Like, college, pre-college, etc, etc. Having these different teams will rope people into the competition and hopefully keep them in after it ends.

I think that we should plan on the race to occur the last 2 weeks of January, with a heavy recruitment drive for the 10 days prior to the race starting.

How about we start the recruiting on or about jan 1st, as soon as we have the final info on the race. We need to give people time to join and learn how to best tweak their machines, etc.

Totally off topic. Turias, I'll be in Minneapolis at the end of March.

That sounds like a good idea to me. So, what we need now is a list of teams. How about the following? Feel free to add/remove/rename any teams you can think of. Or, if you can think up an entirely different schema, please post it.

The Young'uns
The College Kids
Over the Hill (30+)

We would also need some group that occupies the 20-30 age bracket. If anyone thinks this group is too large, then maybe we can add some different groups. Maybe we could add The Bachelors/Bachelorette Pad for the unmarried and The Minivan for the married.

Eh, I dunno. What do you guys think?

And to further Scott's off-topic conversation...
What are you going to be up to in Minneapolis? And, no, I don't think I am going to let you reconfigure all of my F@H machines to increase their performance. I know all about that trick and how it "just happens" to change your username to "Scott" in the process...

Turias, a fair bit of your post fell more into race planning, so I ended up replying to it there.
I probably should have made one thread. Oh well.

I'll be in MN for a conference, actually. I would be amused if a box changed it's username to "Scott", because that's not my username I've never seen it happen, either. Well, other then when some sucker tried borging my boxes. No idea who that was, just that it wasn't very amusing.

Over the Hill (30+)
If over 30 is over the hill then what about us in the over 50 crowd?

It was just a suggestion.

And that oldie OneMacGuy seemed to think that there weren't a lot of people over 50 who frequent these boards. Well, maybe there would be enough to put a dent in the other teams.

How about a Masters group for the over 40 crowd? Then we can recruit Steve Jobs, I bet he has a few computers to spare...
