Note: I blatantly admit to stealing a lot of this straight from ars.

The Project: FAH.

We want to race. We want to recruit. I want to have a chance of winning So let us race in teams. I propose that we create 4-6 teams, and each of those teams will race in a straight production run. We'll tie that in to the recruiting by getting those we recruit to join a team for the race. Teams should be a bit balanced, but there will be no rebalancing of teams. You should join a team that fits your interest. To that end, each team will have a theme of some kind.

I propose that we try this out, and if it works, race quarterly.
For this race, the project shall be FAH, and the duration shall be two weeks. The start date shall be Midnight, January 1st. The end date shall be Midnight, January 14th. None of this is final, so if you want to change something, just suggest it.

If you would like to create and captain a team, post the team name and description here. If you'd like to join a team, post your username for the project here, and what team you'd like to join.

I'm going to create a team called "The College Kids". All you folks currently enrolled in at least one college class are welcome to join. I won't turn anyone else away, either.

I dont mind being a captain of a team. Seeing how I have only just recently gotten comfortable enough to post random stuff in the Forums, we can be "The Lurkers." It could be for those people who hang around Team MacNN but never have really jumped into the fray.

Unfortunately, I am going to be away until the 7th (as most of the College Kids probably will be as well). Might I suggest a later start date to the race?

I agree, let's start a little later. I am going to rip up my whole farm for a New Years Eve Lan Party for my kids and their friends. Looks like the voting is heading toward Unreal Tournament 2003. I should have 12 fairly passable computers and a dedicated server for the night of gore and mayhem!

I will also be willing to captain a team, or just join a team. If I start one, it will probably be for the old timers, the over 30 crowd!

Any other suggestions for a start date?
I'm not going anywhere (winter session starts tomorrow ) so I have no real preference.
We need to finalize the race date before we start recruiting, however, so that we can provide accurate info to prospective crunchers.

How about 2 weeks from the end of the month if we are starting on a two week race?

Sounds good to me.

And old-timers is the over 30 crowd? Pffff. You guys should be 40+. That leaves a little more room for those of us just out of college.

Only problem is that there are really durn few of us in the over 40 crowd that hang around the forums. Some of us intend to NEVER grow up!

How about we start recruiting on or about jan 1st, and have the race either midnight jan 14th to midnight jan 28th, or midnight jan 18th until midnight feb 1st?

By the time we start recruiting, we need to have all teams and rules finalized so that we can make the recruiting threads and present one final message.

We also need to determine how stats will be tracked. In addition, we should decide how each team will manage themselves. Maybe a thread for each?

Also keep in mind that teams do not have to be age based. While mine appears that way, it isn't so much, it's more of an association. There can be overlap as well. You could have some bond with multiple teams, but of course you can only join one.

Current teams.

The College Kids.
The Lurkers.
Over 30.

We definitely have a gap there.
Let's go for one or two more teams that can encompass more people.

We'll kick of recruiting over the weekend for a race that ends as the date changes to Feb 1st. Jan 18th to Feb 1st, I believe it is.

Post any last minute comments and suggestions here.

I'll head up another team for us:

Corporate America

We work for The Man, but steal as much of His processing power as possible.

You are only doing this because you know that you are going to fall behind as soon as bigred gets his 3700+ computers up on the 5th.

Turias, thanks.

If we can get one more team, a team that is "everone else", but not that name, I think we have a pretty good spread. Anyone willing to volunteer?
In a little over 2 weeks, there will be a nice race going, and of course, the whole team wins.

Well I would fit in with the over something crowd, but don't have the free time to head up a team.

Settle up on the teams and I'll squeeze in wherever I fit best.
