What's your fastest cruncher?

I've got a 2200mhz athlon xp. It's barton core (512KB L2) and has a 400MHz FSB. It does 90 points per day on the 520 protein.

Try and use the 520 protein to benchmark. If not, post what protein you used. Dual CPUs are fine as well, it's still one cruncher.

2.3ghz on an almost identical machine to yours, scotttheking. The CLI app does exhibit some instability due to it's overclocked state, but that only occures once every dozen or so work units. I'm running a bit slow right now, 2.1ghz, because I'm awaiting some new parts.

If it's not stable, don't run it that fast...

My fastest machine at the moment is an Athlon XP3000 running at 2.25 Ghz. It is supposed to run at 333 FSB and that is about all I can get out of it, but the multiplier is unlocked and I am running it a little faster. It is sitting on an ABIT AT7-Max2 board with 1 GB of PC3500 RAM and a pair of 120 GB SATA drives raided together. When I am not using it for anything else, it is a great cruncher. According to F@H LogStats, it is currently running on P920 protien (36 pointer) and is generating about 111 points a day. That is 4 minutes 44 seconds per frame!

The slowest, sadly, is my Dual G4/533. Combining both processors output gives me about 35 points per day.

My server is a dual 933 P3 box running server 2003, it is second slowest at about 44 points per day for both CPUs. It is a work horse though. It is serving up about 40,000 hits per day as a web server.

I have a couple of Barton XP2500s running overclocked. one is running at 2.1 Ghz and is hitting around 88 points per day working on a 33 credit P845, not too bad.

Thats why I'm awaiting new parts. My cheap powersupply was causing enough fluctutation that the cpu couldn't operate reliably at that speed. Hence my new Antec Truepower 430w power supply.

Could someone point me to some online resources for overclocking this chip? I wouldn't mind squeezing a few more kHz out of my cruncher...

Overclocking the XP2500 is notoriously easy, for most of them anyway. I have found that most of the ones that I run have the multiplier unlocked. If your motherboard supports changing the multiplier. try boosting it by .5 X and let it run for a while. If the mobo supports changing the FSB (front side bus), try boosting it too, in small increments and not at the same time as when you change the multiplier. I can generally get an XP2500 to run at 2.1 Ghz, no prob, as long as I use good memory that is rated faster than 333 and I use a GOOD chip cooler. I am partial to the Thermaltake SilentBoost because it has liquid bearings, is solid copper, works great and is Extremely quiet! I have gotten real tired of fan whine lately. It can be had on the internet for around $25.
