I have 6 CPU's now all crunching the same protien, what are the odds of that? It is P520_BBA5_pf. Some interesting benchmarks:

My Dual P3/933 server = 15 minutes 39 seconds per frame for CPU1 and 15 minutes 51 seconds per frame for CPU2.

My Dual G4/533 Mac = 23 minutes 2 seconds per frame for CPU1 and 23 minutes 22 seconds per frame for CPU2.

My XP2000 = 7 minutes 32 seconds per frame.

My XP3000 = 6 minutes 9 seconds per frame.

Guess which machine cost the least to buy/build? Yup, the XP3000. It was not cheap, but it was the cheapest of the three....

New data: the XP2000 also got the same protien. At 7:32 per frame, it is by far the fastest per dollar!

The new boxes should beat the crap out of 4 year old boxes
If you normailze the time to a clockrate of 1 GHz
The PIII will come in at about 14.5 minutes
The G4 at 12.3 minutes
The Athlon 3000 at 14 minutes (with a CPU speed at 2.2 GHz).

So per clock cycle they run at the same speed +/- 10% or so.

Now if I would be to run that Cyrix 300 Mhz CPU I am sure I could get the lowest score per clock cycle ever

But now let's normalize for $$$. I love my old duallie, but dollar for dollar, it sucks running any DC client. Now oddly enough, it will rip / compress video files as fast as my XP3000. The best thing about my Mac is reliability! Never crashes, never needs reloading, always there on demand! Now my Windows boxen, reload all of them at least once every 6 months, except my server, it seems to just there in the corner and do it's thing....
