I've been cranking units for D2OL for quite a long time now (I'm 16th overall - one behind Mikkyo), but now I'm wondering if there is a more worthy cause for my efforts.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

P.S. I'm more interested in the benefits-to-mankind angle than anything else, so please take that into account when giving advice.

D2OL is already one of the "help mankind today" projects. The others are Folding, dFold, and Predictor, in no particular order. Other members will surely give sales pitches for each.

As an aside, you can fix your sig by using UBB tags instead of HTML tags (which are disabled in sigs). Remove the space in the [ img] tag for it to work.

drengy, I would recommend Predictor where we are currently ranked number 10 as a team, (and where mikkyo and I have been crunching). The project team is very proactive and provide good information and feedback. Of course, right now the project is down for maintenence. However once back up, with your power added to the rest of the team we might be able to shoot for #8 or more.

Folding@home can always use some good help as well. I'd say those are the two most promising projects in my opinion. D2OL is still a good project in my mind, but I think that their failure to provide any real feedback on results (if any) from the project, is starting to discourage folks.

I think I am going to load up F@H on my faster machines, until Predictor gets back on line. None of the BOINC based projects are working at the moment, while they chase down some backend performance issues.

That's pretty much why I'm thinking of moving. I wanna know that I'm not just wasting electricity…

Then I would say that Folding@home, Predictor or Distributed Folding are your best choices. I think that Predictor might have better science then Distributed Folding, but Dist Fold has been around for a couple of years and has refined their processes more. All three projects have good project staff. Dist Fold gives more "instant gratification" on stats, and Predictor and F@H require more patience, but you really can't go wrong with any.

You know my recommendation already, so I'll let others speak their minds.

I too have been pondering this...

I have just added myself to the team anyway, but I have a feeling I will be going elsewhere. As already pointed out, the thing that really bugs is the lack of feedback, it makes you wonder whether they are actually doing anything!
