It is possible. The answer to that will lie with our compiling pros.
SETI & Climate Prediction have both released the 4.09 update for all platforms, however the primary purpose of this update is to fix various issues with the Windows operating systems. It also apparently fixes some of the benchmark disparities between platforms which "theoreticly" should equalize credits. The benchmarks are slower, especially for whetstones, but the actual work time per unit remains the same, so there is no "real world" performance difference.
It is not a required update, but is recommended. I would keep using the current optimized Mac clients, as long as they are working well, until the latest version can be optimized. More "updates" are in the testing pipeline I hear.
(mikkyo - might be worth it to see if this version will compile for Jaguar, wouldn't hold my breath on that though).
