I just got this PM. After exchanging emails to make sure it's ok to repost, here it is. Bear in mind that I don't know any more about this than you do. I'd rather the contact email had been in a Predictor domain, but it sounds legit and the timing is right.

Predictor needs Alpha testers

I joined so that I could contact you with an offer.

I am contacting you first as a Team Mod because I don't know the format of your team and don't wish to step on any toes.

I have been asked to collect and submit the email addresses for those wishing to participate in the restart of Predictor on the existing hardware and then switching to the new hardware.

My time window on this is short, so please email as quickly as possible to my email address. You will all be sent (from P@H) the standard confirmation keys etc, just as if it were a brand new start (which it technically is) and this will confirm that signups, the web page changes and everything work ok rather than transferring by hand.

We are looking for 100 volunteers. I was instructed to collect this list just over 1 hour ago. I apologize for the short delay and appreciate your prompt reply.

For a decent test bed, a selection of OS's and chipsets are needed.

Information needed from interested users is: Real Name, Screen Name, Email Address, Platform, OS and version, # of machines participating.

This is not a first come first serve basis. They will be selecting for a cross-section of OS and hardware but obviously, the faster you get there the better the chances. After the first section is completed they will pull the next batch of users from the existing list. Any questions please feel free to contact me either via email (preferrable) at seti (with) desertcomp (period) com or a PM here. I will check as often as I can for PM's. If you would rather have the prospectives contact me directly that is fine as well. Just please don't post my email address in plain. :-)

His email reply to my inquiry:
Subject: RE: Predictor needs Alpha testers

Thanks for your reply. I have no problem at all with your posting my PM. Email address munged of course.

Things like this usually do better if they come from a known individual rather than somebody just dropping in. Chuck Lasher is our contact person at the moment. I'm not sure if you guys know him or not. He has been heavily involved with the BOINC Dev Team. I just supply computing power and groundwork.

He is extremely busy at the moment so if you could (at least for now) channel through me and I will make very sure that he gets a copy of everything.

We are awaiting Michela's return to the office to proceed. So far, there are approximately 50 volunteers so we are half way there. Thanks to all who have joined. You are a wonderful group and the volunteers that jumped at the offer are very much appreciated.

For those that are selected, an email will be sent that will detail what is expected and instructions. No, I haven't received one yet either.

Thanks again.
