I came in this morning to a log file FULL of these messages:

2004-10-06 07:13:17 [SETI@home] Error on file upload: file size (14 KB) exceeds limit (0 KB)
2004-10-06 07:13:17 [SETI@home] Permanently failed upload of 26ap04aa.7733.21600.272152.200_3_0
2004-10-06 07:13:17 [SETI@home] Giving up on upload of 26ap04aa.7733.21600.272152.200_3_0: server rejected file

I've seen lots of "Temporarily failed" messages before, but "Permanently failed"?

I have about 10 of these messages. Does this mean that all these units I crunched are useless? I know the schedular is offline this morning for a re-sync. But it looks to me that all of these wu's aren't going to be uploaded again. Any thoughts?

I'm running a G5 DP 2.5 (liquid cooled baby!) so these wu's are getting crunched fast. But it doesn't matter if they can't be uploaded. Running BOINC 4.09 and Seti 4.02. Just joined the team (have 1384 credits so far, should be much , much more) and have not tried out the Optimized versions yet.

I've had some permanently failed messages in the last couple of days too.

As for credit I was told that another person has to return the same result for credit, which or course is dependent on their computer speed and uptime.

I am using bonic 4.06 optimised G4 7450 and Seti Worker G4 7450 optimised.

I ended up just trashing all the WU's I had downloaded and 'upgraded' to the G5 Optimized version and the Altivec optimized worker. Took awhile to tell it was working or not because I couldn't get any WU's to download. Finally got some after lunch and it's buzzing away. Even got some credits validated after lunch too! Up to 1411. Most of which are on the old G4 DP 800 (Whetstone 379/processor) which is only running Seti now. I hope to get some amazing numbers out of this G5 DP 2.5 (whetstone 4833/processor!!!)

I got another TEN of these 'Permanently Failed Upload" messages this morning with a different error.

2004-10-07 04:37:08 [SETI@home] Started upload of 26ap04ab.3369.22352.653412.7_3_0
2004-10-07 04:37:26 [SETI@home] Error on file upload: file_upload_handler: no filename; nbytes %f
2004-10-07 04:37:26 [SETI@home] Permanently failed upload of 26ap04ab.3369.22352.653412.7_3_0

This is getting very discouraging. It seems to only be happening on the G5. The G4 seems just fine. It successfully uploaded 5 WUs overnight.

Anyone else having G5 Upload problems?

Is no one else getting these errors? There were some posts on the Seti Windoze boards about it so I know where not the only two.

If it's affecting the Windoze side, it can't be our optimized clients.

In fact, it would have to be a problem on the project side. A glitch in the server code perhaps, or a bug in the client code - a bug common to multiple platforms.

Seti has the most issues of any project I've ever tried.
I recommend ClimatePredictor for your boincing pleasure, then at least you can help us reach #1 while seti is unwell.

I agree, Seti BOINC does have it's share of problems. But I'm trying to not abandon it yet. Especially after watching the whole X-Prize documentary last night on Discovery! I wish I was there to see that flight.

After another mornings log full of failed notices, I've went back to the non-optimized client on the G5 just now. We'll see if that makes any difference. Of course I go from floating point 4833.71 million ops/sec DOWN TO 1340.95 million ops/sec. But maybe I can get some unites to freaking upload!

My G4 is sill having NO problems with BOINC 4.09 and Seti 4.02.

I'll keep you posted of the results.

Well, going back to the non-optimized version DID NOT HELP!

I've also starting seti on a SECOND brand new G5 DP 2.5 and it too CAN NOT upload. I'm about to give up. Next option is to go with the 4.11 alpha and see if that helps...

Any other G5 users getting upload errors???

Well, things are getting a little better. Messages switched to TEMPORARILY FAILED:

2004-10-08 13:39:26 [SETI@home] Started upload of 14mr04aa.17223.15266.267324.5_2_0

At least it didn't trash the WU....yet...

I'm getting this same message on the G5 with 4.09 and the G5 with 4.11, so it isn't the client. Seems to be some rumors in the PC Seti forum about junk work units. Time will tell I guess.

I've gotten a few successful and a few failures on both G5's this afternoon. Looks like it's time to install the Optimized client back on!

Yeah, I got some of the errors as well on my iBook. The problem is on the SETI side. Today was one successful upload and one permanent failure.

Looks like everything is full throttle on the upload side of things. NO errors over the weekend! Time to install the 'optimized' version again and really get these G5s humming.
