i think i have asked earlier what is the best laptop for F@H and got the response that laptops arent the best way.
however i would like to up my speed in F@H and the only way would be to have another machine.
the problem is i cant justify the cost of it. i would build a PC instead of using a mac.
but it is still most likley to cost £500+ for the most basic machine.
so to justify it i need another reason. anyone got any ideas?
also for future referance any help on what components and their prices would be welcomed
thanks

If you have any desire or need to learn linux, that might be a justification.
Depending on what OS you do plan on running on it, it could make an excellent place to backup your real computer (your Mac).
The best use for a PC in my experience is to run a DC client and to run games, like Halo!
If you do decide to build a PC, let me know and I will be glad to advise you on hardware choices.

i will be running windows on it so that i can have red alert back again.
maybe i could sway it that it would be for university use and leave my G5 at home running F@H as i wont be selling this beast for years

I use a program called FAHLog Stats on the windoze computers to do just that.
It is here:
http://fahstats.sourceforge.net/
It will monitor all of your computers, including your Mac if you share the directory where your folding files area at. It will give you the specs on your current work units, including the points that they are worth and the average points per day that each CPu is generating.
