Hi All,

Well it looks as though SAH is going to have problems for the next six weeks as they transfer SAH Classic over to BOINC

So predictor gets the use of my 2.00 dual G5 at this decisive moment it seems, for the big push for NUMBER ONE !!! position. Maybe a few more will join as well.

Any how my question is -

What's the prefered software to produce the maximum results?

I have downloaded and run BOINC 4.43 gui version but was wondering if any of the other mac versions offered are actualy quicker or if any of the optimised versions can be used?

The BOINC GUI is fine, but close BOINC MANAGER when not being viewed, as it will steal CPU cycles. Don't run the screensaver. All the optimized BOINC clients work fine with it. I run SETI as a backup for predictor, and you can easily do the reverse.

With any of the optimized clients from Mikkyo, your dulie should be able to contribute 550 to 650 points per day minimum unless it is used for other stuff.

Welcome aboard. We are on a very fast track to #1.

I knew that the move was happening sooner or later. I suppose I should prepare this
to get ready NOW before it actually occurs.

For someone who has not bothered with BOINC on the Mac where should I start?
The machines I have are 1 dual 2.5 ghz Mac, 1 2.2 ghz single CPU athlon box on
Xandros Linux, a Windows XP box (1.7 ghz Pentium M) and a 1.25 ghz iMac G4.

Hi Todd,

Well you could do worse than go over to :-

http://predictor.scripps.edu/

and join Pridictor. They have a pretty stable version of BOINC gui which seems to run very nicely on Mac OS x.

First off, create an account then set up the preferences for your account, home and default to the same seems good @ 300 for max use of your computer.

Then download your choice of the macOSx software. Gui version is good to start with. Attach to the project using the url and key that will be e-mailed to you and your on your way.

good luck.

What Knightrider said. Also since you are interested in SETI, the beauty of BOINC is that it can run multiple projects and you get to set the "share" that each project gets. If one project goes down the other project(s) will keep crunching. SETI BOINC is there, but they have been having a lot of server problems recently, as well as difficulty keeping up with the rapid growth. Along with Predictor, another popular supplement to SETI is Einstein@Home which has also been mostly stable. Einstein work units are longer but with a shorter deadline, so you have to make sure you give them a large enough resource share.

BOINC SETI we do have optimized clients, as well as an altivec optimized SETI app from Javalizard. On my iMac G5 @ 1.6 ghz, I can do a SETI unit in under 4 hours consistently, even the long units with lots of data. Predictor units are under 1 hour and Einstein units about 10 hours.

DEADLINES
SETI - 14 days
Predictor- 7 days
Einstein - 7 days.

Hope that helps.
