I'm running both SETI and Einstein on a MacBook Pro, 2.0 GHZ core duo, OS X 10.4.6, BOINC 5.4.9. The Einstein is the new client (4.59) that Bernd posted here http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/forum_t...?id=4242#37169

I find the results interesting. Nearly all of my results so far are on the order of 4670 sec, with claimed credit of around 16.3. Granted credit ranges way more widely than that. For example, this WU has my MacBookPro at 4677 sec, a PC at 31296, and a Mac Quad at 15787

In comparison, my 1.33 GHz iBook G4 http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/results.php?hostid=353544 is taking around 13000 seconds and my 1.67 GHz PowerBook G4 http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/results.php?hostid=505821 is around 10350 seconds, both running Bernd's 4.56 PPC enhanced version.

Won't it actually cook your MBP....? I've been reading that MB and MBP CPU temps are going over 75ºC/167ºF on load....

I was initially tempted to get myself an MB for a portable cruncher, but after reviewing the temperatures...,

Well, it's case is hot - doesn't seem appreciably hotter than my PowerBook G4, though. This machine is a loaner machine - I asked before I installed it if it would cause a problem and he indicated no. I am however carefull to give it plenty of air circulation. When I set it on the desk, it actually sits on a couple of pencils to allow air to circulate under the machine. I've heard some people use a wire cake cooking rack - anything should help if it allows air to circulate. I haven't found a Temperature Monitor widget yet for the MacBookPro, so I don't know what the indicated internal temps are...


When I buy one of these for myself, I'll also buy Apple's service contract, just in case I do fry the CPU or something else.
