Please read before voting. This is not a poll about what box you personally have.

I have been benchmarking all our current projects, so as to reset milestones realistically. The numbers are coming in, but I need to know what the average crunch box can be expected to be, for an average Mac owner.

This isn't the latest-and-greatest new box, it's the minimum box that a typical Mac owner might be found with. Something still considered respectable. A PowerMac 7500 with G3 upgrade card does not qualify any more. A G4 with > 1GHz upgrade might. A Quad or MacPro doesn't qualify yet, very few own either today.

We do keep boxes longer than the PC folks, so I set the first choice at G4 Single 1.25, even though that's been around awhile in PowerMacs. It's not that old in the Mac Mini or even the iMac or 'books. Whatever reference box we settle on, milestones will be set to require a month of crunching on that box to reach the first milestone. Older boxes will need longer.

The last time I revised the reference box, it was a 1 GHz G4 PowerMac. That was almost two years ago. What does everyone think should be the minimum/average box today?

Separately, here is my list of projects to rebench.

Einstein@home - done
Folding@home - done
Rosetta@home - done
Seti@home BOINC - done
RC5-72 - pending
Predictor@home - pending, no work units, no account creation
Climate@home - cannot be done, no Mac work units at present
D2OL - not sure, no apparent team interest

What other projects are we in today? I can only benchmark a Mac PPC client, but I'd still like to know if we are active in other projects. With the advent of x86 Macs, it no longer seems valid to limit our support to projects with Mac PPC clients.
