Hi everyone. A while back a migrated the accounts on an old iBook to a Mac Book. After receiving an email from SETI, I reactivated my account. I gave the ibook to my daughter and since it is on 24/7, I decided to upgrade Boinc and get it crunching (MacBook was already crunching). This has resulted on both the iBook and the MacBook having the same Computer ID. If I look at Computers on this account page, whichever machine communicated last is the one that shows up. No credits missing they're just being bundled together. So instead of having say 5 computers active in Rosetta, I only have 4. Anyone know how I can straighten this out?
TIA
Nora

Nora, your computer announces itself on a local network in the System Preferences --> Sharing --> Computer Name. Happy Boinc-ing!

Yeap! haven't found a way to change that. Does anyone know?? It is only named without the .local or .lan in system preferences.

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. When I go to system prefs>sharing>comp. name. The name of the computer doesn't have a .lan or .local ending. It is just a plain name. If I try to edit it by hitting the edit button, the .local part is grayed out and I can't eliminate that part. Still, I'll try changing to see if it works.
Do you think that may help with the problem ot the two comps having the same id no?

FWlW, I changed the computer name and updated projects. They are still showing the .lan ending. New name, but still .lan. There must be some setting I'm missing. In the meantime, I'll set project prefs. not to show computers on website.
The two laptops still have the same comp. id, in all projects except SETI.

It shouldn't end in .lan it should end in .local which is appended automatically. You can't change that, but you should be able to give the computers unique names. Like Nora.local and iBook.local and ngcamacho.local. Does that work? Some people have reported inconsistent behavior using the Edit button, just rename in the Computer Name field.

I renamed the computers in question, updated and all is well. Now comps have their own ids. on projects.
Methinks I totally misunderstood your first reply. I thought you were refering to my comps showing up as .lan when looking at the project accounts. As I understand it, only I should be able to see computer names in project accounts, and only if logged in. Am I correct? If not, what should I do?

Sounds right!
