For all you octo's crunching, how's your machine doing? I currently have a 2ghz mac pro and thinking of replacing them with 2 quads (when the price drops a bit more). Just curious on heat issues. I currently crunch at WCG. I have to run my fans around 1000 rpm to keep it around 100 degrees. hate to see what I have to set the fans when I upgrade. Appreciate your replies.

I am running my 8-way 24/7. No issues. I don't monitor the temps. But I can tell you it's way cooler (and more quiet) than my quad-PPC.

How can you change how fast your fans run? My single core 1.8 G5 runs at about 155°F

Unfortunately, the SMCFanControl only runs on an Intel Mac.
Look in your System Preferences/Energy Saver and see if there is an option there to change your fan speed. Otherwise, try googling "Macintosh Fan Control" and see what you get. When I tried, most references were to the SMCFanControl, but there were some to older apps that ran under OS 10.2.x and 10.3.x - one of these might help you.
