Over the last few days we have been out crunching both free-dc and ars.
I think it's time to make a run for first place while we are out crunching them.
If everyone threw a bit of power onto ubero, no matter how little, it could increase our production by quite a bit. Once we are in first, everyone could go back to their projects.
On the same note, we could challenge them to a three way race, since all of our production is pretty close.
Thoughts?

i dont thikn we should challenge them and give them an excuse to get their production back up. lets just outcrunch them and get them outta here.
i managed to get my brother to join team macnn ubero, his g4 450 is tasty and i can get an imac 500 to crunch every once in a while.
i can practically taste the overtaking

Well, I'm in. Now that I'm (finally) using OS X with web connectivity... why not?
It seems like RC5 is crunching pretty strongly even while Ubero runs... is that the case? Is there any way to setup a crunching heirarchy?

Oh, another question: how often do rankings update? I've crunched a little but still sit at 1007th place (last).

Looks like they see us. Now lets smash them.
Slipjack: They will fight over processor time. Also, rc5 will use the whole 2nd processor.
Which rankings are you talking about?

Slipjack,
I took a look at your stats. We need to do a little work I'm assuming that you are running on a Dual 1GHz machine, right? If that's the case, you can be running 2 instances of the Ubero client. This will nearly double your production. Also, have you tried using the memory tweak? This will boost production tremendously. You can also set the clients up to run on a script. Get more info here. You should be able to really boost your production. In your first hour, you only did 6 units. My Dual 800 crunches through 20-25 an hour. There's a lot of possibility here!
|
|
Yeah, about those TPS reports, didn't you get the memo?

I've been running a version of mikkyo's memory tweak for a single processor on my titanium G4 500MHz, and it works great. I can't keep up the numbers I had this weekend, but I'll keep trying to slug away. I'll also see if there's any computers around here I can hijack.
Right now the major barrier to me putting up slightly better numbers is that I have to lock my computer away at night and can't keep it connected. Only on the weekends can I keep it out all the time, but that's at home and requires the computer dialing up my ISP every 8 minutes. Bleah.
Scotttheking has started another thread to get the memory tweaks in one place. I'd share my version except I just took it from someone else, so I don't want to take credit for it. I can share my memory settings for my machine, though. I'll do it in that thread.
This team thing is fun!

Lately I been runing all three projects on my computers, just choosing one randomly, and letting it run overnight. Now I'll just pick Ubero. I my 700 units a day make a big enough dent.
When they releaser a non-beta version I'll put it on my friends computers too. I hope the add a screensaver feature, and have it go to a blank screen like SETI.

Oh, my part
When the DSL line comes, I'll put the full power of my home network on ubero, since I can monitor those comps via ssh.
That should be good for 800 or so WU/day.
When the client and the server are both more stable, I'll put it back on my main farm. That'll be (estimated) to be around 2000/day, maybe a bit more.
And then I can resume my goal towards the top 10

Thanks for the help, but my eyes cross a little trying to figure out how to proceed. What exactly am I doing with this tweak? Where do I put the saved file? When do I run it? Could anyone repost a step by step? I'll fiddle around a bit more and post myself if I get it going.

Thanks. I was talking about the overall rankings in Ubero. The system doesn't seem to re-rank you as fast as your data gets sent in. No biggie. I eventually did get updated.

Whee ha! The script does work! I would like some way to see it graphically represented... but until then coool! Thanks guys. I didn't notice at first that you have to copy a second version of Ubero to get it to run twice, but looking at ProcessViewer... it seems to be working!
The other thing I didn't quite understand from the thread was to run the script, all you have to type is dot slash [name], like this = ./uberorunner.txt
Not much of a UNIX user, as you can see. Command lines are something I haven't looked at since the Amiga, and even then that was only to use the modem.

Slipjack,
I'm glad you got everything figured out. How much RAM do you have in your machine? I've got 1.12 gig in my Dual 800 so I upped the memory settings in mikkyo's script. Here's my memory settings:
java -Xms900m -Xmx900m -XX:NewSize=300m -XX:MaxNewSize=300m -cp Agent.jar ubero.agent.Agent -text
With this set-up, I get a few more units each day and I avoid page-outs. Oh boy! I took a look at your stats again. It seems that you still only have one client running. Get out there and download a second copy of Ubero and fire that bad boy up! Just use the dual processor script and you'll be all set. Post back if you have anymore problems or questions.

Hmm... I was running the dual script... should I be setting each client up seperately first before I run the script? Actually, now nothing works this morning... very strange. The java processes are running but not getting fed any data... argh.

Yeah, you have to set up two different clients and give them separate names. Mine are G4Dual800#1 and G4Dual800#2. Very creative and original.

What's the best way to set up the second client? If I just copy the folder, it takes on all the preferences of the first one right?
Also... I'm getting the 'Unable to find work' thing now... ??? This was after uninstallng and reinstalling Ubero again...

You have to completely reinstall the client in a second folder.
It looks like ubero is having some problems right now. Seems today is a bad day for DC (SETI is fuxored right now, too)

Thanks for all your help again guys.. now if I could just get my wife to leave the computer ON during the day... we'd really be crunching
I seem to be sending all my stuff to one agent... I don't think it hurts anything, but I'll try to get it properly split into two agents next...
Peace!

If we could get Team TrustNoOne to join with us we would instantly be in Second. Then first wouldnt be far off.
Granted if I can keep up 3000+ wu/day we will take second anyway, but another 100K wus would help a lot.

We need to power up.
Take some power off seti, take some off rc5, and slam our way up ubero before they know what hit them.

we could really make a dent if a whole bunch of people (everyone) came on to ubero for about a week or two. then just leave it to the regulars.
i want first place!!!!!!!!

It seems ars saw us coming, and is powering up.
Free-dc also sees us, and is getting ready to respond.
Rumor has it they will be doing about 7K/day more!!
We need to win, now.

i'll be breaking 10k today
but we still need to move whoever has some ultrasparcs onto ubero, and take some people off of something like seti to just take the number 2 spot initially.
ars is only a couple of assigments faster right now, lets make a dent while we still can!

Ok, everyone seems so gung-ho on Ubero, and my PC sucks at RC5 anyway, so I'll put Ubero on it. Which Java should I use, IBM or Sun?

IBM is apparently the faster of the two. Actually, if you can get your hands on the Sun beta, I think the two are very similar in speed.

TVM & TPR have aready made pitches over in WOOF, but we haven't heard definitively from TCP yet. You might just walk away with a few dozen ghz of temporary aid against Team MacNN
That's from ars.
TCP is their ubero team. Lets get enough power on ubero now that a few dozen GHz won't help them
Another 15-20K/day will be enough for that

and more from over at ars.
This is from John (aka jdaw), their leader.
OK TCP !!!
We are being sneaked uponed by Team MacNN !! they are currently doing about 10K a day and we are doing about 5K a day!!! So we will need to prepare for this in the near future, as they are still 260K behind us.
If you look at the numbers they have about 50 members currently crunching for them are We have only 9 members.
So when the time comes I will call more members to help defend our Number 1 Spot.
John
