Power logix cache controller can be used to speed up the processor cache of ANY g3 or G4 processor (Except dual) This makes your computer go a lot faster. Everyone should try it, You can get it from versiontracker.com.

Using that utility, or the xlr8 utility, to overclock the L2 cache used to be a recommended trick on SETI. However, when the client went to the 3.x versions, the L2 speedup vanished. Apparently, the v3.x clients operate almost entirely in the L1 cache, making the speed (and size) of the L2 cache unimportant.

I used the xlr8 utility for many months, but took it off after 3.x hit. It no longer gave a speed advantage, and my system was slightly more stable with the L2 running at normal speed.

Note, I suspect this would still make a difference in OS X, but no one has released a free X utility yet that works on stock Mac CPU cards.

Power Logix Utility was released today and it is free and works on stock CPU's in OS x. I was noticing the speed up in UBERO as well as the rest of my computer. I have never had stability problems using a utility like this although it does make the cpu Hotter. I think everyone should still try it and if you don't like it get rid of it.

not that I know of, worst it can do is crash your computer if you speed it up too much but even then it will disable itself on the next restart. It might overheat a laptop but in a normal computer i see no trouble. makes everything seem kinda zippy in a 333 iMac

I've got my G4 bumped from 200 mhz (2:1) to 267 mhz (3:2) with no appreciable increase in temperature as measured by the utility.

No instability so far although I did crash my machine by trying the 1:1 ratio setting; quick reboot brought it back to the last saved setting without any issues although I did lose a whopping 14 day uptime that I had going...

The machine feels a little more responsive although no noticeable gains in RC5.

Cheers.

I'm gonna try this out. As posted before, it probably won't help my RC5. If it imrpovesw the responsiveness of the computer that'd be great. IE tends to slow way down when you have several UBB windows open. I post at Macnn, appleinsider and spidweb and whenever all three windows areopen IE is way slowd down. I'll try increasing memory for IE.

On second thought, not.

I can't find a Cache Controller on Versiontracker. The close names seem dangerous. Wonn't try.

I think the release notes said it doesn't work on DP machines for now.
