A lot of folks are having to pour their resources into other team efforts, to keep us from falling behind there. Don't worry. A lot of us are keeping an eye on Ubero and will be there when there is a real need. We just need more 'puters to do more work.

Starting in a few days there will be a real need because Ars's Gauntlet will be over. Right now is the time to boost production, not move to other projects! If we get ahead substancially now, we will secure our spot. But as of yet we're slipping, so we must increase production not lower it.

True, but then we fall behind in the other projects. They have increased production, but are still falling behind. It is all about balancing the needs of all the teams. LWD is threatening at SETI and help is needed there. Folding is trying to establish itself as a top team. RC-5 is a constant ongoing battle to get ahead. Help will be coming when it is needed, but we cannot sacrifice the needs of one team for another. Other teams took some hits when we put so much power into Ubero. Look for a boost this weekend or early next week. The ubero faithful are still building on our lead there, just not quite as fast. We all wish we could put more power online. Soon there will be a membership drive to try to bring in more members. We just have to wait until all the pieces are in place. Ubero is not abandoned. But neither can be any other team. Hold true!!!

From what I can see, Ars does not plan to try passing us in early April. Until Ubero finds real work again, Ars' idea is to show they can outcrunch us for a few days.

Our lead is probably safe, but it will be a lot safer if we manage to outproduce them during their 5 days of test power. Until they seriously power up for the test, it's probably not worth sweating our production. Just so long as we keep outproducing them by more than a tiny amount.

Edit: Shaktai, just noticed. Welcome to Seniority, with 100 posts. We'll be sure to give you your discounts from now on.

I agree with reader and shaktai. I have started folding, because I think it sounds like a worthwhile project. If Ars manages to exceed our crunch rate, I'll be the first one to switch back to Ubero.

It will take me 5 minutes to bring both my machines back over to Ubero.

Like any battle, it is foolish to commit our reserves until they are needed. In the meantime there are other battles to be fought lest the war be lost all together. Ars Tech will most likely organize their rally, sometime around the 1st of April. At that time we can bring in our reserve power and stage our own rally. In the meantime, those resources are needed elsewhere. Ars is not gaining on us right now, they have merely slowed the pace at which they are falling behind. To fight the battle too soon, is to ensure defeat.

I put my PC on Ubero with a CLI and the memory tweak tonight instead of RC5. My RC5 stats may go down some, but oh well. I can move some of the Macs from RC5 as well if needed, but they're all G4s, so RC5 is where they are most effective.

My PC at work is firewalled off from ubero. I could run SETI on it if we needed SETI help, but it's doing RC5 at the moment. Same for my wife's home machine. It could run SETI if needed instead of RC5.

Again, I think we can always go back to Ubero, but right now, SETI is the bigger challange. There are more teams to beat, and it's 'real' work.

Don't get greedy now 'kruse now that you've had the power in your hands.

+ I'm keeping a couple machines on Ubero so it's not like I've ditched ya'.

I'm staying out of SETI for now. I am not a big fan of SETI anyway, and it has been running so long I could never get far enough up in the rankings to even show up on the radar. At least with RC5 I have a history there so I was not starting from scratch.

Right now, here is what I have doing what:

Ubero
1 G4/450
1 P3/750

RC5
1 P2/266 (behind a http firewall, so Ubero is not an option)
1 part-time Celeron 366
1 G4/450
1 G4/733

I will probably move the G4 back to RC5 tomorrow, I just wanted to let it go today and see what it was capable of compared to the PC.

I may or may not put the PC back on RC5. We'll see how it does at Ubero.

I would be interested in hearing how the G4/450 does compared to the PIII/750. Would've been more interesting to see a comparision against the G4 733, but I am sure you don't want to pull that much power from RC-5. Let me know how they stack up. (you can e-mail direct to brdavid@mac.com if you don't want to post it.)

I am kind of like you. I haven't done SETI in so long that my impact would never be noticed. Ubero was fun, and I do have a small history with RC-5 but right now Folding is the arena where I can make my best statement. Besides, folding has the best chance of benefitting me close to home. (several relatives have alzheimers and it appears to be a genetic propensity on my mother's side of the family - a cure or treatment would be nice.)
