Lemme get some G3 upgrades in the cows (7100/80 and 8100/100) and I'll be right with you.

Dude, buy me OS X. Better yet, buy me computer that can run it. We've already had this discussion, haven't we?
The Pismo is my wife's, she doesn't want to change. Bondi has an ATI RagePro C video card, which is 'unsupported under OS X' for now. The 8100/100 and 7100/80 have 601 processors, which are unsupported even with XpostFacto.
Gumby: I'm still trying to secure the G3 upgradess; they outbid me on eBay.

Is SETI speed solely based on processor speed? My friend's Windows machine with an AMD Athlon at 600 MHz completes units faster than my OS X machine with a G4 at 500 MHz. I don't get it. My machine averages about 16.5 hours a unit. Is that slow?

the size of the cache also plays a role...as does bus speed.
which is odd because my 433G4 in my Rev A. iMac has been completing unit around 12-15 hours. it has 1MB L2 cache and a 66mhz bus... running 10.1.3

For your system, it is somewhat slow. My G4 350 averages about 15 hours, so I would expect you to see 10-11 hours per unit.
You may want to visit our optimization pages for tips. On the other hand, if your CPUs are constantly under heavy use for graphics rendering or other multimedia work, SETI would take much longer to complete a unit. It would have fewer free cycles to use.

[drool]14-16 per day? [/drool]
I just bought (via eBay) a Newer G3 240 MHz PDS upgrade for $66.75. Once it gets here, one of the cows should be crunching MUCH faster. Look out 3 per day, here I come.

im still waiting for my new cow to come in the mail. My new PowerMac 6100/60 crunching 24/7
should do about 1.5 a week....
oh, that reminds me...
the 6100/60 will be running 7.5.5 and the only program on it will be AOL 3.0 for connecting. Should I put in the LibMoto extension? i have it on a floppy somewhere...
EDIT: the more i think about it, the more i think we should just have an all out race. anything goes... Active members have been dropping the past three days. (170, 164, 156) so ill let whoever sets up the race decide on the CPU restrictions if there are any

LibMoto is good for an extra 1% on OS9 (G3) and 3% on OS8 (601). The math shortcuts in it have no-to-negligible effect on SETI output in non-G4s.
It can't hurt, unless you use a G4 (not a problem for a 6100, but could be for others). Altivec's math lib is superior to LibMoto.
I find the 7100/80 moves slightly faster in 256 grays than any other setting (about 10 minutes per 75 hour WU), but your results may vary.
