We need about 80K more blocks per day to win this race. That's from now until the end of the race, and you can add to that any extra that Phlump pours in.
Cmon, people, you can do it.
And just so you all know, I know my power is dropping. The campus is shutting down, so I lose much of my computing power.

I just brought my P3/750 on line tonight, and my wife's Celeron 366 was on most of the day, cracking in 3 hour chunks. I should be back over 6000 blocks tomorrow ( spam2@theresistance.net). I don't have access to any other machines of consequence, so that's really it for me. Eventually I am getting a decent PC at work, but not in time to help with the challenge.

I'm a seti person, but RC5 is once again running on my G4 350. After the race, I'll return to mostly SETI, but for now, we need the power.

Just got back from fixing the servers.
My server is up and crunching rc5 instead of seti, and the old server should be tomorrow, too.

We actually need about 100K more blocks per day to securely win this race.

Also, if Other World Computing delivers on time, I should have a spankin' Encore Dual 500 upgrade crunching blocks for the last week of the competition for what it's worth!
Cheers.

How do I configure the MSDOS version? I've loaded it on my work computer, but after crunching the first set, I keep getting an ENOSYS error.
The screen shows:
Unable to create network endpoint
ENOSYS: unsupported system call
Right now I have packets/units in my buff-out waiting to be uploaded. Help!?!

The cable system here has been down for two days while doing an upgrade. As a result I lost 2 G4/450s, a G4/733, and a P3/750. it's back up now, but I missed quite a few crunched keys as a result.
Hopefully I can get the machines all back online today (all but the 733 G4 are up now).

Can you tell me the exact OS version?

Even if the net is down they should still crunch. If a client runs out of blocks it will generate randoms, which may or may not be counted. Worth it to try.

It's the x86 MSDOS version. If you mean the version number, according to the dnet website it's: 2.8015.469.

Well, OWC choked on the order so I didn't get it delivered; however, a local shop here in Tokyo has graciously loaned me a demo unit of the Encore Dual 500 which I installed about an hour and a half ago.
Initial impressions? Boy, if you've got a sub-500 G4 single processor machine, this is a great buy if you aren't ready to upgrade the whole system.
OS X is now smooth and silky like I imagined it to be, plus the fact that my machine is now cranking the following:
[Stock G4/400 = average 3.4 mkeys/sec without any CPU intensive processes running]
[Encored G4/500 x2 = average 8.5 mkeys/sec without CPU-intensive apps (surfing and email only)]
[Encored G4/500 x 2 = average 8.3 mkeys/sec with iTunes in the background on top of other apps]
It's pretty cool because you can see processor 'a' and 'b' swapping back and forth crunching (I imagine this is as OS X is passing duty between processors?).
Hope the extra few days running at 2.5 times power will help!
Cheers.

I've had my 867Mhz Quicksilver running almost non stop this whole month. I just installed the newer version of rc5 that really boosted my performance. It is appearantly optimized for the ppc 7450 CPU's, so if you have a Quicksilver, go update! I am currently getting around 8.7MK/s with no cpu load, and a little less than that with iTunes running. I've also noticed that iTunes 2.0.3 is MUCH more efficent with processor usage than previous versions and does not detract from RC5 as much. yay.

Ack, sorry for the delay.
I'm assuming it's installed in the default location. Change the path commands if they are not.
type these in from the dos console.
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1"face="Geneva, Verdana, Arial">code:</font><HR><pre><font size=1 face=courier>
cd /program files/distributed.net
or, if the above doesn't work
cd /progra~<font color = blue>1</font>/distri~<font color = blue>1</font>/
dnetc -update
</font>[/code]
If that works then you are good to go.
If it doesn't then you may have a company firewall that is being pesky.

Are the blocks we are getting over the last week right? I got over 7,000 on one day and less than 5k on the others, even though I have the same machines running the whole time. (or should, at any rate.) Is it just me?

I think the amt. of work units turned in can vary if your machine hasn't sent in a large load when the day ends. Your machine will load as many w/u's as it thinks it can get done in a set amount of time, at the current crunch rate when it logs on to the server. If you come along and do some work, and slow it down, it might not get the units sent back in until the next 24 hr. period.
I've got mine set to up/download every 11 hours, and I average about 2300 units a day, although sometimes I'll have a 1500 unit day followed by a 3000 unit one.

Looks like both my G4's froze again on the 23rd... lost 3 days crunching from 'em...
Also looks like we are gonna lose.

Several of my workhorse machines have had long-term network outages, some of which are ongoing. My numbers are down to about 45% of my max as a result.
On the bright side, I just added my Christmas present, an iBook 600MHz to the mix, which seems to be doing about 1.8MKkeys/sec. Hopefully it will help some when it's on.
