I've got a brand spanking new iMac G4 800 and I am running folding@home 24 hours a day. I'm registered as dustin_17_ on the stats pages. I crunch at a steady rate of about 1.5 'points' a day.

I like to add one more question. What is your average crunching rate and for what project?

Just upgraded the Bondi iMac to 466.

SETI: Bondi 466, Pismo 400, PowerMac 8100/G3-266
RC5: PowerMac 7100/80 and Performa 6290/100

No OSX projects for now. I'm a non-adopter until I'm either forced to at work or I feel that it is truly ready for primetime (10.2 maybe, 11 more likely). I'm just stubborn like that.

I've got a dual 450MHz G4. I'm part of the dFold gang.

I am toying with the idea of sticking either BeOS, Win95 or DOS on an old Pentium 266 laptop. Any idea which would perform quickest at either RC5 or Seti? edit: At the first sign of work the darn thing just kicked the bucket. I always thought it was about as useful as a chocolate fireguard!

DP800 w/1.12GB RAM

Seti - 4 CLI clients
Ubero - 4 CLI clients
Folding - 4 CLI clients
RC5 - 1 very dual processor aware client

Running 1 client of each right now until more power is needed in certain projects...then I move over to that project full-time.

I am working Folding almost exclusively right now, but keep an eye on Ubero in case I am needed. I've also contributed work units to SETI & RC-5, but not really pursuing those at this time.

800mhz Power Mac (single CPU)
iBook 600
just added last night - 1 gig Celeron
EDIT: Add a 1.4 ghz Athlon to my mini farm.

All total I can turn a score of about 5.5 (more now with the AMD Athlon) per day right now in folding. Once I learn more about how to optimize the PC, I might do better. In Ubero my two macs were turning 250-280 per day combined and close to 4 per day in SETI. The macs alone combined can do up to 3300 a day in RC-5.

I have an iBook 600 with 384 MB RAM

I was doing RC5 first, but didn't quite make it to the first milestone. Then the big Ubero challenge came up and I switched. I can do about 160-170 units per day in Ubero if I run it full time (which I usually don't).

Now that Ubero is quiet, I have started doing folding. I am doing about 1.5 WU per day (.75 points), but I am ready to switch back to Ubero quickly if TCP powers up.

Running SETI

I also have One 700mhz PIII crunching SETI, and two or three PII's crunching SETI.

(if someone could throw a 32MB stick of PC-66 168pin RAM, i could throw SETI on my dads 200mhz PII. (it only has 24 right now )

any other pictures?

EDIT: does anything ever work the first time?

All mine are running RC5. When RC5 is finally broken, I will probably move to folding or SETI, since the ubero software is still pretty crappy. My systems all run 24/7 unless specified otherwise.

1 G4/733
2 G4/450s
1 P3/750
1 P2/266

In addition, I have a part-time Celeron/366 and occasionally a 1GHz Celeron.

Doing RC5 ( aka Drew ) , but I lost my broadband a couple of days ago. I used to be using my G4/533DP and AMD 1.2G at home, but am now only crunching on a G4/867 at work.

As soon as I get my DSL back, I'll add in my two machines at home.

2 G4 450's and one 604e 150 running RC 5 24/7, except for the occasional SETI work unit. (I keep one loaded in case the RC 5 keyservers go down, as they tend to do once in a while)

Just joined/started on my first SETI unit yesterday

A small contribution: iMac 400 w/ 320 MB Ram, running OSX and occasionally Linux. Hope to add some kind of iBook or Ti book to the team later on in the year. I think the G4 at work is off-limits, but will ask IT. Who knows maybe they would like to get their hands on alien technology?

I for one am glad you like it here. You're very welcome. A bit of banter doesn't hurt. If you find this community useful and of interest then great. I know I do.

The fact that you're bothering to get involved in any of these projects is a good thing. Personally, I'm not too bothered about you doing it for another team. I'd rather see you join the MacNN team, but if you aren't interested in that then no one is going to lose too much sleep over it. The team thing is only a bit of fun anyway. The more people who bother to engage in any of these projects, the sooner we'll find aliens, a cure for cancer or simply finish the dnet 'crypto treasure hunt'.

900 MHz Athlon, Folding
900 MHz Athlon, dead power supply, so nada at the moment
433 G4 upgraded Blueberry (with Bondi "can"), Folding
333 G3 - normally seti in OS 9 but right now, folding in X because I'm using X for AppleScript development and the iMac screens is just WAY too small for the excessive amount of windows that Apple's IDE throws at you.

I'm not with Team MacNN but I do enjoy your forum

In the future-
That second Athlon will be running Genome.
I'm building a 1U webserver that will probably have a 800 MHz Celery.
It will run folding.

OK we're into unit 2 now. And the iMac is working a lot harder than my favorite ice hockey team, so I don't feel so bad, after all. Until I start to think about the Rangers that is...

well,for rc5.....

the G4 867, going by what i see scrolling in the terminal does
8,500,000 keys a sec...consistently

the G4 450 does
anywhere between 3,500,000 to about 4,500,000 keys a sec

the p4 does about 1,000,000 to about 1,750,000 which is along the same lines as what my imac 500 can do

the pII 266 and 233 do about 500,000 keys a sec

i was number 19 producer in teamMacNN for april 3rd...one spot above scotttheking...take that be-yotch.
its a shame the pc's only run at night, even though they are slow they add to the mayhem.

the g4 450 is a dedicated cruncher, i would boot into the OSX console and just run it that way but i cant get passed a "dont have permission error"
oh well

as far as ubero goes, the p4 tears it up but at the end of the day only ends up about 50- 80 units ahead of my 867. keep in mind the 867 is actually used for a good part of the day for lots of fun stuff while ubero is still running. if i were to not run ubero in the terminal with the memory tweak the p4 is easily twice as fast.

hope that helps, i dont know if there are any official benchmark tests i can do. if there are, i'll give it a try

Hey everyone. Here's what I've got on RC5:

QS 867, pretty much 24/7 unless I'm doing some really heavy work with Photoshop, etc. Viva la MacOS X Task Scheduler!

Pretty soon planning to add two G4/500's to the RC5 mix. Possibly as soon as tomorrow.

Congrats, you beat all the computers I can't find to switch to a new project

For ubero, are you using the IBM java? P4s aren't good for anything in rc5, I'd drop it on another project it'd be better at

i went back to my comps last night,

the g4 450 does between 1,500,000 and 2,200,00 keys/s
sorry for the error, i was doing it from memory

but all the others are right on.

i would have the p4 on ubero, the problem is i never figured out why the ubero installer could never find the javavm.dl file. i could never install ubero. i had it running xp, then my brother managed to get 13 different viruses on it. formatted the HD, installed win2k, which by the way is super speedy on that set up. installed all the sun jdk and RE. but i always got that error while trying to install ubero. after many installs and reinstalls of ibm and sun jdk's and re's, and re-downloads of the ubero installer, i just gave up, and put it on rc5. damn joo M$!

Just de-lurking to say hello. I've been reading the boards for quite a while now and decided to joined the team a couple of weeks or so ago. I enjoy the general tenor of the MacNN boards and that's why I decided to join.

I'm only doing Seti right now on a 2*1 GHz tower. I throw my 500 MHz iBook at it too every once in awhile.

Hmmm, I think this might even be my first post!

Welcome and I am sure the SETI team appreciates your contribution. I wish I had one of those 2x1 ghz too. Make that 2 or 3 of them.

Both for RC5:
G4 400: 2,500,000-3,000,000 keys/sec
AMD 800: either 1,600,000 or 2,600,000 (very strange)

The PC pretty much sits there crunching for 90% of the day. It's pretty worthless except for that.

Well, let's see. I am currently active in three projects: Ubero, Distributed Folding, and RC5.

The breakdown:

Ubero:
G4 Dual 800 - 2 instances

RC5:
PowerMac 8500 w/ G3/450 upgrade
???? some other computer that I can't find

Distributed Folding:
G4 Dual 800 - 1 instance
Dell 500
Dual Athlon 900 (weekends only)

Ubero has been my main project lately. I kinda gave up on RC5 after I broke 1 million units. Just isn't that interesting anymore. I'm running Distributed Folding just because it does seem interesting and our team is just starting out. SETI: blah....

Well, I've mainly been hanging around Ubero, but have switched one machine to dFold.

G4 733 - dFold (just started so not sure of performance)
Athlon XP1800 (sliiiiightly overclocked ) - Ubero (heading for 650 day)
iBook 500 - Ubero (about 90 day)

Having fun too, basically!
