Unless my math is faulty, I estimate that we should pass Free DC around 5:00 PM Pacific time or about 7 hours from now. of course we could shave some time off that if everyone power-upped.

Any other guesses?

I'm calculating about 6 hours from this moment. That would be 4:30 Pacific time. I have this method for balancing my checkbook: maximize losses, minimize deposits, and be happily surprised when it all comes around. So let's call the turnover time 5:00 Pacific. 8:00 Eastern time, where I am.

Well, I hope we do pass them soon, my DSL line gets disconnected on Wednesday pending a switch to a new provider, so I'm crunching like crazy to make up for the time I will lose whilst offline.......it's great in the UK, you change adsl provider, BT come and disconnect you, then the new provider sends BT out to reconnect you

We'll pass them soon. only trailing by 1400 units give or take a couple. I guestimate 2 hours and 30-45 minutes as of about now. Problem is by the time I complete a set of calculations, we have gained from 7 to 12 units on them for every 1-2 units they complete. Heck we cut the difference by 50+ units in the time it took me to write this.

I agree, I get 2 hours 30 minutes as of this posting. We are outcrunching them by almost 8:1 now.

Yeah, it is the same here in the USA. They have to disconnect you from one DSL provider, before they can hook you up to another, and for some reason they can't seem to coordinate it so that they do both at the same time. Well, if you get disconnected on Wednesday for a short time, I guess that will give me a couple more days before you pass me. (Anybody got a dual 1 gig mac I can borrow?)

DAlex, you could install RC5 and stock up with a week of work units. Then when you come back online, you could make quite a splash.

You can do the same on SETI, but it takes more work to download and stock up the units. We don't have a really good Mac utility for keeping SETI fed, though it's easy enough with a bunch of CLI clients. Just make a ton of copies of a fresh CLI folder, start each of them once to grab a unit, then shut it down until you want that client to crunch during the down time.

Less than 1000 units to go. At this rate, I think my original estimate of 5:00 Pacific time, may be a little long. I can't post before we have gained another 20-40 units. Think I will call it at 4:50 Pacific time now.

We are now #2. Team Chili Peppers / Ars Technica watch out. You are NEXT!!!

I think the count was 702,289, when we passed Free DC by one unit. We trail the #1 team by about 213,000 but gaining quickly.

Could you post or e-mail that screenshot????
brdavid@library-of-wisdom.org My Mac.com account seems to be acting up right now.

Zooming past is right. 13 minutes later we were ahead by 170 units.

The news has been posted on the site.

Sorry for missing the party guys, we speeded up and passed a half hour before projected. I should have checked back in sooner.

Anyway, Scott has sent me the screenshot. I'll crop it down to a decent GIF and will amend the news post with it later on tonight.

The FreeDC people have noticed finally, they posted in the Ubero Forums, and replied in the Ars forum. I guess they don't use their own forums for anything, and apparently they can't find our Forum at all.

Good idea, will look into it. It would be a shame to lose crunching time just 'cos of British Telecom!
