Hi everyone! I'm just a newbie so please feel free to ignore this post, but I bet you'd get a lot more users for Ubero if you had some intro paragraph on your Team MacNN page that clearly states that this is going to help solve some biological problem. I didn't download it until I figured that out.

I'm excited to be donating my computer time, even if I'm using the GUI version. If I knew how to stop and start it using terminal, I'd probably do it. I'm just a graphic designer non-tech weenie.

Thanks for letting me contribute to this effort!

--Rick

P.S.: Has anyone told Apple that you guys are in second place? Seems like something they might like to brag about...

Actually it's not, and that's why we don't publicize it.
A MacNN news poster saw that on their website and added it to our news.
That is their current project, but it's already finished, they are redoing it again now while they search for a new project.

Welcome though

Ohhhh, ok! So the project changes! How does one find out what they're working on?

Thanks for being so friendly!

Welcome Rick,

I too do not have a technical background and am more graphically oriented. However in the forum thread under "Beta Testers wanted" there is a wonderful configuration client that will help to setup the CLI (terminal) to run in the background with no technical knowledge required. It is currently up to Beta 10, but I would reccommend downloading Beta 9. Beta 10 has some startup problems. However this config client will make the process completely transperent even to non -techies liks us. It was extremely easy for me to use. ( My interest is in digital photography) The biggest advantage is that it provides a significant speed boost. I then use the CPU monitor in the Utilities Folder to monitor its actual running.

Give it a try when you have time. You can leave it running all the time pretty much, even in the background when you are doing other things, if you have enough RAM. Again, welcome to the team!

That's what they are working on right now.
They are trying to get a new project, but aren't having much luck now.
It will be posted, in both the app and on the website

Welcome Rick, from one newbie to another!

I've found the help of the other people on these boards invaluable in getting my systems honed to crunch faster.

Shaktai: I hope you are crunching as fast as possible whilst I'm (mostly) offline I was gaining quite nicely but my adsl removal came a day early........

Whew!!!! I was getting worried there. I didn't know if I would be able to keep my lead long enough or not. The Beta 10 config app, seems to have boosted my iBook's production by about 8-10% average. Haven't been able to determine its effect on my Powermac yet, due to downtime.

Will look forward to seeing you back in the race when you get you new DSL.

Thanks so much everyone for being so friendly. I think I might use my computer time at work for F@H, and this one for RC5 or something until Ubero does a new project. I'll check regularly for updates though, and I really want to contribute! I installed MDC3 and it works great!

Please let me me know if I can ever help you guys, as unlikely a scenario as that might seem!

Thanks again,

Rick, every little bit helps, no matter which project(s) you decide to work on. Besides, it is just good clean fun.
