With the new PowerMacs, as well as the older yet still Altivec-enabled PowerMacs, should we stick to RC5? From the numbers I've seen, G4s own most other boxen at dnetc.
If we all switched our processing power to RC5 we could decimate all, no? I pretty much gave up on crunching Uvero work units after I realized that my measly 80-90 units a day wasn't going to close the gap between Team MacNN and the top two FreeDC and ChiliPepper teams (where the gap stands at 100,000+ units).
Why don't we focus our macs to RC5 where we can make much more of a dent?

It's up to individual users of course, but you are right: MacNN teamsters with G4s should put their bexst foot (feet) forward. Of course, my opinion changes as soon as we get into a race in Ubero. I'm currently doing Ubero on two G3s and a PC.

Following along those lines, my Dual 500 has been out of Ubero service for the past week or so and recalled back to RC5 duty because of its Altivec advantage.
Now, I have to just dig up some additional clients to fill the gap on Ubero...
Cheers.

We can't win RC5. That's a given. We can be the #1 ranked team in ubero. It makes just as much sense to go for the project we can be highest ranked in as it does for the projects the proc is best at.
BTW, your measly 80-90 WU, combined with everyone else's measly 80-90 WU, combined with the heavy hitters much more WU, makes a team that has a lot more WU then it had if just the heavy hitters were crunching. We are about 1200/day less then Free-DC. Now, we could try and find one person who can do that much, or we can get a bunch of little people to close the gap. Before we can start catching up to the top 2 teams, we need to be crunching as much as they are.
We can make just as much of a dent in Ubero as we can in RC5.

I guess you have a point, Scott, but I think that my main qualm is that I only have one OSX machine, therefore only one machine that can run Ubero. I think that I'd rather crunch for the race that I can be best represented, and I feel that in this case it'd be RC5.
By on the other side of the coin, all my machines are G3s, and I only one of those is OSX (and able to run Ubero), so me running RC5 on that OSX machine (Seeing as it's a G3) isn't helping the RC5 stats too much anyways, so I may as well crunch Ubero on my OSX box.
Thanks for clearing this up, and i'll switch my OSX box back to Ubero right away.

On the negative side for ubero, you're right, only OS X machines can run it. Another minus is that it's still 0.7. Some people don't like running beta software on their machines or their school's networks.

heheeh on that note, some people are wussies and need to bite the bullet and run the beta software for the good of the team. It's not like a beta OS where it could kill productivity entirely by crashing and/or clearing crucial files.
