I know spam isn't allowed, but what about recruiting for Team MacNN? Can we have a monthly/quarterly membership drive? Maybe recruit for RC5 one month, Ubero the next, SETI the next... Should we have guidelines for recruiting internally (how often, who initiates, what can be said, etc)?

What does everyone think? Scott? Reader?

I hate spam. Even for non-commercial purposes.
However, there are a bunch of completely useless threads in the Lounge which are LESS useful to society than asking fr computing help. If we need to do this, let's have them RARELY>
Actual conversation between UCLA and Stanford during a login on early Internet - U: I'm going to type an L! Did you get an L? S: I got one-one-four. L! U:Did you get the O? S: One-one-seven. U: <types G> S: The computer just crashed.

We do them every couple months.
I've been holding off on the next one until the config app is done, since one of the larger problems we've had is people installing it, running it for a while, then getting sick of turning it on again.

The config app, with it's hidden run on startup, will make it so people can just install and forget about it

When we do advertise, we do targeted advertising. We'll mainly go to powermac, imac, the lounge, and one or two other forums that are high traffic. We'll also get a post on the macnn main news page.

Recruiting is rarely made for a single project. If we are starting a race for a project, we'll work hard for that one, but usually we'll just say join the team, here's the projects we have, pick one.

Hopefully the config app will be ready in a month or less, and then we can swarm into the other forums

Yes, we do ask moderators permission before recruiting in a forum. Powermac is a given, I'm one of the mods. When it gets closer to the recruitment drive, I'll check with other mods.

hey Scott, you might want to make a Project "list".

A page that details every Project and what computers are best suited for that project.

IE:
SETI: This project looks for Aliens. Computers best suited for this project are any PowerPC model.

RC5- description..... This project has been coded for the G4. So if you have a G4, we recommend that you crunch this project.

etc....

I've been thinking of setting up a Projects page, that shows all projects with a Mac client, or that expect a Mac client in beta soon.

There are several projects with Mac clients that we do not currently compete in. I expect to look them over one at a time, see if the clients are crashy or have other problems. Currently I've been testing the distributed folding client, not sure exactly which other client will be next.

If someone does decide to recruit from the fora of competitor teams, I strongly suggest that they be as inoffensive as possible. A bad rep is only cool if you're in high school.
If you put a bullseye on yourself, don't be surprised when someone takes a shot at you.
