This is for SETI in case anyone has any questions, like I did.
I've thrown my new PIII 733 at work towards SETI. Any other spare cpu cycles out there?

Ubero is just another DC project. Here's the website: www.ubero.com . It stands for: "universal binding and execution of redundant objects" and their client can process varying projects. Currently it has no new data, but if their theory is marketable, users of the client will be paid for their cycles.
Oh, and by the way, it's mentioned because we're ahead of ARS's team in team ranks. We're ranked #1.

Not too impressed with the prurient level of discourse over there...
So, Scott, when are we going to move some muscle over into SETI? Should we be thinking about it now that Ubero is under wraps for now?

Little White Dog-
the time for taunting is when you are within 2 or 3 days of overtaking.
Otherwise- your bark is louder than your bite

Not yet.
Ars wants it back.
We'll start another recruitment effort in the next few months though, once the team config app is done.

The dogs are getting close. LittleWhiteDog looks set to nail us within a couple more weeks. Despite the name, they do not offer pet services. They actually review (pc) hardware. We just passed National Yang-Ming University with help from some new members, and it looks like Team User Friendly will be falling very soon.

I just wanted to apologize for my comrades in LWD. Unfortunately, this is what happens to people when you're so used to passing up teams. As for the "if" we will pass you, I'm afraid that it is really a "when"...the cold hard fact is that PCs have passed up Macintoshes (take a look at our average times; one of my machines spits 'em out every three hours). It's this kind of raw, crushing power that just goes to your head...my apologies once again.

No apologies necessary. It is mildly entertaining. As was somewhat mentioned before. Speak when you are ready to knock on the door, not weeks ahead of time. Also be aware that when our Ubero push is over, we may bring more power back to SETI, if we choose to do so. Each platform has its advantages and strengths in different areas. Many MacNN team members are multi-platform, just as some LWD members are multiplatform. Now if you wanted to Challenge us at RC-5, that would be definitely unfair to you, as that is an arena where the Macs shine at about a 3 to 1 ratio per mhz. As I said, each platform has its advantage. Oh, a dual 1 gig Mac can turn in times approx the same as yours, but by processing two units at the same time. Right now, your immediate concern is not MacNN but User Friendly and MacObserver. You must pass them to get to us.

I just want to get this straight....
We are used to choosing people a little bit ahead... playing with our food, so to speak, specifically to given them a chance to run for it.
We tried to play with those in the slots right above us, but by the time they replied, it was a done deal, and resulted in little more than a wave as they choked on our dust.
Instead we find that we can get weeks of entertainment by warning those such as you that we are coming, and that we are a force to be reckoned with.
Alas, its inevitable that we shall blow by you, I mean even adding two new members with 20k each (according to your own news), which means an additional 40k, that only places us 50k behind... a temporary repieve, but one, which us dawgs just love to see.
You have to admit, a couple of weeks of good natured fun is so much better than just slamming the door in your faces as we bury our feces behind us
And feel free to move more "resources" over to your team from "other" projects (we dawgs are single minded, we don't need no stinken other projects), we like to see our food sweat and panic. Makes the chase that much more fun.
anyways, feel free to stop on by and add your own comments... thats .... www.littlewhitedog.com in case we hadn't been real clear... step into the forums, we have a WHOLE section just about seti...
tell ya what.. we always have people posting about improving seti operations.. feel free to add, and read.. who knows, you might learn something in the process (or we might)...
regardless.. in the long run.. its all about the wu, and its little distractions like this that add a bit of fun to it.
yours in conquest...

Not sure if you were refering to me, as my old display name was OoCobra97 for the SETI team and LWD Forum, but I have only changed teams one time, when alas virtualhideout.net was down for a month on end with no word of what was happening in the forums. Then I cam eacross my new home about a year ago...and have added almost 8920 WU to my stash (when I left virtual hideout I had 80 WU).
So hopefully it wasnt me you were refering to =)
But, we will see you around quite a bit, until our sights settle on our next victim =)

That's the key difference between the two teams, LWD is very focused on SETI, and this is why our numbers keep getting better.
off topic - nice set of reporting scripts you guys have here for team stats and graphs. I assume this is MacOS X driven...
iceman - I probably have the only two Macs running on TeamLWD.

Fortunately for LWD, we do spread our power around...<grin>.
You can Thank Reader 50 for the great stats pages. I don't know what they run on, as various team members run a lot of different platforms including Linux. Macs are just the platform of choice. Glad to see that at least one member of LWD has some good taste.
I checked out my SETI production capabilities and am ready if needed, but am going back to Folding until you get a little closer. Too early to get flustered about it yet.
As to your forums, you have no "guest" mode that I could find. Just didn't feel like registering

Don't know what cobra your thinking about, I have never joined any team ever. I enter the Ubero Team and since someone else took my screen name I had to go by cobramac. But I had those seti 20k wu for 3 years without belonging to any team. Right now my resources are in Ubero, and since someone switched teams to get TCP to 1million before us, I figure when I saw this post, I give the seti team my 20k. If you look at Ubero's production, you will I'm doing half or 1/3 of the teams productions.

I have my personal dual 800 working on RC5 at the moment...however, if needs be (or when the time comes) I can muster a few more macs (only G3s I'm afraid) to point toward the SETI effort...

I'm not complaining. Nope, definitely not complaining.
If anyone is curious, S. Harada came over from Apple. I hadn't been able to figure where Cobra came from.
Shaktai, wd_iceman ... the team stats code is all developed on my G4 under OS X. Some of it later runs on the MacNN server, under FreeBSD. Thanks for the kudos.

It is good to have cobramac on board, no matter what. And yes we have all noticed how much you contribute to the Ubero effort. Thanks for that and for the SETI units. You are appreciated. As of this moment I calculate your contribution to Ubero as being 40%. (WOW!!!)
I was hoping to get a third computer online, but couldn't swing it right now. Maybe later.

cobramac i just want you to know you are my hero!!! now to get my old g4 running seti, scott i assume ubero is safe for now... i may leave my old preforma on it though.....
now these dog fanatics are beginning to annoy me.... i wandered over to their "yard" and found lots of mac bashing and chest beating...
fathertyme writes...
I just ran over to take a little look... they are finally starting to respond to our taunts.. they have even indicated that they are starting to bear resources on the seti issue... prolonging the chase... *hehehehehehe* the outcome is innevitable my friends, lets run them into the ground!!!
Lake writes
You dogs should have warned me it was a Mac site. Now I feel dirty and will have to spend the whole day getting hosed down.
I was not impressed with the discussion over there.
i think it is about time to let all the other memebers of team macnn know about this, but it is up to scott and reader but i think we should, well... let the dogs out on LWD's @$$...

Hmm, we should respond, but I'm not sure we can get that much power without putting everything on SETI.
They are too cowardly to do more then one project, we do 4.
Let's try and push it off a bit, then see about whipping their doggie asses.

LWD has less than half as many members, and three times the throughput...
It's only a matter of time, even if you apply more resources, it takes a while to get those units going.
It's simple math, our daily mean average is much higher than yours, with lower time per unit completed
I have nothing against macs, my first 2000 units or so were crunched on a farm that was 60 percent Mac based for O'Grady's PowerPage team. As I migrated more resources from Mac to x86, I didn't feel right with remaining on a Mac focused team.
You folks have a good crowd here, and let's keep things friendly...

wow... I still like that stats page ya'll got going... tho it must get REAL annoying to see our team come up on you with such speed... highlighted all red like we are... putting out so many wu, with so many fewer members than you have...
*shudders*
just glad I'm not in your shoes, with a pack of dogs gaining on me...
you can run, and you can hide, but you can't run and hide from the speedy bunch of dawgs getting closer *woof*
(in other words... *bump*)
*laughs* tho I still have to admit.. tis much fun and merriment
hope you guys are enjoying the exercise as much as we are... tho being the prey, and being the hunter are completely different points of view
