http://n0cgi.distributed.net/speed/query.cgi?cputype=99&cpumhz=1600&recordid =1&contest=rc5&multi=0

This person showed up in the lists over @ distributed.net for
the rc5 competition.

I want THAT computer! 1.6 Ghz G4. I wonder who has that one?

Massively overclocked? Or just a nice little box inside Apple somewhere?

Probably a mistyped DP800. 800x2=1600 Just a thought.

I want this one: http://n0cgi.distributed.net/speed/query.cgi?cputype=66&cpumhz=866&recordid=1 &contest=all&multi=1

The keyrate looks like it may be legit. Maybe an xServer test model (G4 quad 867 Mhz)? 'Twould be sweet.

You do know that the dual gig model that is available, will do 20,000,000 kps don't you? CPU shows as a 7400, so an early protype multi-processor at best, if legit.

Me? I just want a stack of the dual gig Xservers. I have a nice empty corner in my apartment where they would fit perfectly. Mind you I am not greedy. 20 or 25 (40-50 ghz) would be sufficient to my wants. I wouldn't need a whole 8 foot towers worth. Of course I wouldn't turn it down either.

That is certainly a mis-typed Dual 800. If there were a 1600MHz G4, it would perform slightly worse than double a 800MHz G4, but that thing was more than double and less than triple.

Also, I still cann't belive that the Dual 1GHz can do 20MKeys/s. That means that each processor is doing about 10MKeys/s. That a huge improvement over the efficiency of my 867. For instace, my 867 would get 8.67MKeys/s (not the current 7.7MKeys/s) if it were just as efficient.

There are a lot of factors on making things more efficient for rc5:
-100 mhz bus or 133 mhz bus?
-is bus overclocked or not?
-how much memory and what speed memory?

The new xServe boxen will be great because they have the faster DDR
ram, a fast bus and fast processors.

My own G4 is a 400 with a 100 mhz bus.
I have 1.6 gigs of PC133 ram.

I can overclock the bus if I want, but the cpu must be modded to
let this occur apparently.

One thing I do is overclock the L2 cache on my system. The XLR8
software that comes with their processor accelerator boards will
also speed up the L2 cache on G3/G4 systems.

So my 199 mhz L2 cache is now 265.7 mhz and definetely makes for
faster RC5 performance. I used to get around 3,450,000 kkeys/sec,
but I'm at 3,576,000+ with the L2 cache boosted.

I'm considering getting some kind of CPU upgrade - I need to move
more keys. I have to make a million wus before the contest ends.

Once it's done I'll probably move every machine in my farm to seti
until that's done.

The only thing rc5 cares about is MHz. Nothing else in the system matters, since it loads itself into L1/L2 cache and stays there.
