Okay, since Scott is on a "leave of absence" I am going to try to follow through with helping with the SETI recruiting drive. However I need help from other folks too.
We have posted recruiting blurbs in the following forums (we are limited to a maximum of four forums to recruit in). Power Mac, iMac (thanks Gumby5647), Mac OS-X general, and the lounge. Please visit these threads and help keep them alive. Also try to answer questions, and help with troubleshooting as needed. (we have one case of troubleshooting in OX-X general now).
I know not everyone is big into SETI, and I think most of you know where my personal loyalties lie. However, this drive is for SETI and we need to keep the focus on that. If folks inquire about other DC projects than feel free to answer their questions, or better yet invite them over to the Team forum. Please DO NOT stump for other projects though in the SETI threads.
Keep in mind, that a certain proportion of folks who look at SETI, will discover the other projects. Hence, the more people we get into SETI, the more overflow we will have to the other projects as well.
I have and will continue to post some tidbits of info about SETI in the threads to help keep them alive and stir interest and invite others to do the same.
Got to go to work now, so I won't be back until late night pacific time.

People might already know this, but as I was tooling around the Seti website I discovered that "The person(s) who found the signal with their screen saver would be named as one of the co-discoverers along with the others on the SETI@home team." (I'm trying to envision comet Hale-Bopp with 250 additional names attached...)
If everyone on the team gets recognition, its great to have more people crunching for us (increasing all our odds).
Also, it might be a selling point for those people who are running Seti@home but who arent on a team (vastly increasing their odds).

I had read that item as the person (people) who discovered the signal, along with the others on the Berkeley SETI@home project team -- in other words, the project people at Berkeley. But I'll go reread it, see if it really means the winner's team mates.
Edit: This is the link that I found. No mention of shared credit there. Does anyone have a better link?
Further Edit: The paragraph in question is posted here (5th paragraph).

Our sun is only a single star in a collection of over 400 billion we call the Milky Way galaxy. The Milky Way is only 1 of billions of galaxies in the universe. Seems like there should be lots of life out there!

The person(s) who found the signal with their screen saver would be named as one of the co-discoverers along with the others on the SETI@home team.
The way I read this is that the Berkley guys get the credit. If the the was changed to their then I'd be inclined to think the finder's Seti team would get the credit.
However there's still plenty of other reasons to join Team MacNN.

NASA joined in SETI efforts at a low-level in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Some of these SETI-related efforts included Project Orion, the Microwave Observing Project, the High Resolution Microwave Survey, and Toward Other Planetary Systems.
On Columbus Day in 1992, NASA initiated a formal, more intensive, SETI program. Less than a year later, however, Congress canceled the program.

The following is an excerpt from an article at the Planetary Society website, re: the SETI@home project.
...Having a "mere" 1397 candidate signals is a vast improvement over having one and a quarter million signals, not to mention the 20 million gaussians we started out with. But even so it is too many. The SETI@home team still needs to narrow the list further, to around 25 most promising signals. This list they can then present at Arecibo, and arrange for dedicated telescope time to go back and check each of the signals separately.
To read the entire article which is a good plain english explanation of the "candidate" signals that are processed, go to http://www.planetary.org/html/UPDATE...ate_040102.htm

Hey Shaktai, explain this to me. If you post this at Little White Dog forum: (partial quote)
"Heck, if I wasn't so committed to shoring up Folding-at-home, I would be mighty tempted to move some of my 3.2 ghz over to SETI as well. And no there is no shortage of macs, or linux boxes or windows or anything else at MacNN. We be doin' just fine. - You may end up passing us, but you are going to have to work for it. Run little doggies, run....
Then urge other other people here to run Seti, isn't that being kinda two-
faced? Or is there two Shaktai's?

Are there other Macintosh forums, that don't have a team, that we can recruit on. If so, let's be careful and not have them start another SETI team.

Don't know of any. They almost all have SETI teams or work under the auspices of another MAC site. (i.e. Low end Mac and MacObserver).

Scott says to stop the recruiting run already. He is quite adamant about you stopping, as he made me post this.
He is practically holding a gun to my head, so for my sake, please stop...
BANG!!!!!!!!!
Just kidding.

Well I am about driven out. Besides Monday starts the dFold competition. Gonna need every spare CPU cycle, just to keep from falling too far behind. Till then, I am doing my part to help SETI. (6 units in just over 12 hours)

The AI boards do not have any DC teams, they have historically crunched on the MacNN team when they feel like it. http://forums.appleinsider.com
MacFixit has active Forums, but I cannot recall running across any MacFixit teams in any projects. If they have teams, they are all low-ranked. Which is possible.

Ok people, I chatted a bit with Scott. Our recruiting drives normally run 3-5 days, anything beyond that starts ticking people off. Especially people who do not like DC projects. We are not in this to make enemies, and should have gotten as many sympathetic people as possible by now.
Accordingly, the active part of our drive on MacNN boards is done. Please stop bumping the threads. If new recruits ask questions, it's fine to answer them. But try to send them over here to the Team Forum.
Maybe we could go after the AI boards, or MacFixit instead. I checked out MacFixit, they do not have any teams in any projects.
Thanks to all who have given time to this, especially Shaktai.

Well, we picked up 25 more people, nearly 900 total. Not a flop, by any stretch of the imagination.
Granted, several aren't actively crunching, but WUs are WUs, and that just antagonizes the LWCs even more by moving the finish line back.
(LWC = Little White Chihuahuas, barking rats in my book.)
