Well, well, well. It seems we've been here before, no? You're back in our targets once more...I see we've been upgraded from "Danger Level 1" on your stats page. In addition, we just broke 500,000 WUs, got a new member with over 11,000 WUs, and passed up Texas A&M. It's only a matter of time now....

That's only because SETI is a waste of time. Look at our RC5 power. If we turned that on to SETI, you guys would be blown so far out of the water you'd be wishing for a parachute instead of a boat.

Oh....the treaded "IF".......

:::::insert trembling paws here::::::

Why is it that whenever someone mention Mac...."IF" follows????? PC's outperform the Mac's. It's a fact you need to deal with...."IF" you can.

LWD guests, please be advised that MacNN has sig image size limits here.

The limits are: 140 x 40 pixels, less than 10K filesize, not animated.

The current limits were put into place after someone posted some NOAA weather maps as their "sig images" a few months back. 3 maps, each 2048 x 1536, over a megabyte each. That thread took 5-10 minutes to load on 56K.

JAmZ, I tried to register on LWD boards, to answer why the previous image was removed. This is what I got:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers
error '80004005'

[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Field 'FORUM_MEMBERS.M_FIRSTNAME' cannot be a zero-length string.

You can't make such a broad statement like that. I seem to remember that with SETI v2.0.4 my 350MHz G3 finished a WU in 7.5 hours, while my friends brand new, top-of-the-line PIII 866Mhz finished in about 9 hours. If I had a 500MHz it would have finished 5 hours. Seems to me like in that case Macs outperform PC's

Also let's look a the latest CPU becnhmark in RC5:
Best Mac = 2x1GHz G4 = 20.79MKeys/s
Best Athlon = 2x1.53Ghz = 11.1Mkeys/s
Best P4 = 2x1.8GHz = 4.89MKeys/s

In the RC5 arena the PC's performance is laughable comepared to the G4!

Seems I remember that on March 21st, LWD was 8 days from catching us. Now they are barking about being 13 days behind us. On May 21st, wouldn't it be funny if they were *18* days behind us?

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers
error '80004005'

[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Field 'FORUM_MEMBERS.M_FIRSTNAME' cannot be a zero-length string.

Typical M$ BS. Shoulda used Oracle. But then you can't teach dumb dogs new tricks. After all, they stand with M$, even after Billg neutered LWD's distribution of haxored Win2k USB 2.0 driver. Reference: http://www.theregus.com/content/4/24562.html

Strange?? Yesterday they were 13 days to pass us. Today they are 14 days. I think the pups are running in the wrong direction.

1 day reprive does win you the war. Just wonder how much longer the recruits will stay with you. The numbers dont lie, our output is more than double yours.

Once passed, I bet your new recruits run to another team and you'll drop further

I don't know about your team members, but we don't run away when everything is done. We just say oh well, and find something else to do with out time. Maybe our new recruits will move to another DC project, or start a competition, or write a UNIX shell script. We're a tight knit group, and we don't really have deserters.

The thread title is "Feelin the heat yet"
The poster is "nope" from LWD
And he said, " 1 day reprive does win you the war."

Is this the classic Freudian slip or not? Hmmmm!

First off, sorry about the sig image; my bad

Secondly, glad to see you keep the team together, which is more than we can say for certain other multi-tasking teams.

Thirdly, we were barking before you had two members add a total of 40,000 WUs to your team, and now we're back to finish the job

And finally, you have to remember that we of the Windows way have this nifty little program called SetiQueue that we use to store our results. To give you a sense of perspective, our top member will dump 1000s of WUs at a time, about once or so a month (the SETI-Lax syndrome). So in other words, idle threats aside, your ass is grass and were all sick little puppies.

We of the Macintosh way have a little program called SETI Unit Manager that caches SETI units. No doubt some of our users dump vast numbers of units all at once.

We also have our own SETI proxy server, but it sends and recieves units with Berkeley almost constantly.

Team MacNN is slowly turning it's power towards SETI@home as I last remember, but I still like to crunch RC5: Why?

My biggest RC5 dump this month off this dp800 alone: 6,200 units.
My average Rc5 dump this month: 2300 units.

I used to be a pc zealot, can't stand em now, this is for you LWDs

couldn't help but notice someone said that seti isn't very useful, so they do rc5.

Um, explain to me again how rc5 is useful?

If you want a useful project, run Folding@Home or dFold or Genome@Home.

The stats just updated. As Shaktai wrote, Saturday they were 13 days away, Sunday they were 14 days away, now, Monday they are still 14 days away....

Should we be scared?

That doesn't mean we are just as fast as they are. If we were, the days to intercept would be infinite. That just means that we sped up a little, and some rounding is keeping 14 as the number displayed. I bet the precise value has gotten a little smaller.

It's useful in that you can win $2000 if nothing else.

When RC5 is over, I think I will move to dFold. It seems to be the best of the three you mentioned as far as the client software is concerned. I'll pick based on which client best suits my needs when I get to that point.

sideus joined with a thousand units, and we crunched 700+. Between both, we maintained the gap against their 1700+ units for the day.

If team Ranks updated more than once per day, I'd let it show a decimal place or days+hours. But multiple updates are not practical without a dedicated server. Scott has offered one, perhaps someday.

Whenever I get DSL I plan on running a simple linux box to be a dedicated webserver, FTP server, email server, and possibly host the team stats.
