cobramac has 429,511 as of this writing
mikkyo has 428, 097.

I hope this doesn;t mean cobra is going to slow down until he matches mikkyo. Then again, we'd still be top team with two mikkyo's.

I think it's time they brought the fight over to DF.

Well Cobramac will be #1 soon enough.
About half of my machines are busy doing real work now, but maybe when I can bring them back doing DC stuff I'll put them on something else like DF.

Real work? Humph.

j/k...

Seriously, it would be great for MacNN to take 1st in a second DC project, and I think DF is our best chance right now.

Well, when RC5 is done, I'm moving to DF. If we could get all our RC5'ers to do the same, we'd shoot up the rankings.

Amen to that. What are your predictions for RC5 being over? I say... maybe 3 months... With new hardware being released and more people upgrading computers, etc.

I'll definitely move over to DF.

I gotta wonder whether distributed.net will move immediately to RC5-128 or whatever is next in line to protest. "We need higher levels of encryption" yeah fine. Why not set encryption standards at several years ahead of breaker's ability? Howzabout a 512-bit key\?

Cause it doesn't quite work like that.
The higher the keysize, doesn't guarantee longer crack time.
Take WEP(airport's method) for example, with the latest crack techniques, the large keysize doesn't take much longer than the smaller and it is easier to capture the data since you can spot the important pieces of data faster due to the long key length.

Also you want your encryption method to be fast and efficient as well as difficult, so using a giant keysize is not ideal.
If you wnat to see try generating a 4096 bit keysize for your SSH server. Youll time out before the server can validate your key, which makes connecting kinda annoying.
