as i have said time and again, LibMotoSh is a controversial item... all sorts of claims have been made about it, good and bad, and most are probably true... good and bad. BUT it will not make your Mac crash and it will cause no trouble with your Mac, or should i say i have never seen it cause trouble and i have used it for a long time and many of my friends have used it as well... it can boost performance of SETI on your Mac

CLICK

btw, it is most often condemned as being a cheap hack cooked up by Moto engineers to make PPC benchmarks return higher scores in FPU calc's, if i remember correctly, and it has been stated/claimed that if you are building a bridge (or the like) with your Mac and have LibMotoSh loaded on that Mac you may well get some egregious calc errors... i say again, this was a claim that was made and i have not seen evidence to prove it or disprove it

Alright, now should I be using the end-user or developer version. Too late, I've already installed the end-user version (do I look like a developer to you). I take it that the library improves the QUALITY of SETI's calculations? Sounds like it's an emulation of the AltiVec unit (i.e. improving FPU's). What kind of realistic improvements can I expect?

Anyways, you're the Team MacNN leader (?), so what you say goes (what cliff did you want me to jump off of? ).

your mileage may vary

Gee, you move cross country and everyone forgets who clicked the button which formed the team...

I have had LibMoto and LibMotoSh installed since 1996, and I have found that they really do help. Download both, install both, they won't hurt each other, and they won't hurt you.

I advise everyone to install them.

well shucks, i wouldn't feel slighted as Team MacNN for SETI was my idea after all... and i have done the lion's share of answering SETI questions as well, and i did contribute a little on the SETI site... not to ruffle any feathers, you understand... and not to have mine ruffled...

and now that i think of it, it is right and proper that people should see me as the team leader, by godfrey

ya know, the only reason i did not actually create the team entry at the seti@home site is because i thought i'd be over-stepping my bounds, i could have done it easily as can anyone who wants to start a SETI team and of course my creating a website for it would have been right out of the question i should think... would not the higher 'powers that be' want control over determining the direction, style, and content of such a thing?

Don't make me kick your ass, Misha.

I don't like crunching on my PowerBook, which is what I have been mainly using since Feb/March, so that's why I keep going no where, and quickly at that.

However, I have a cute little supercomputer in my kitchen which is only awaiting a monitor to get crunching, and then I will happily drop my average per unit. But untl then, all of you should just leave me a lone. Waahhhhhhhhhh....

And don't get me wrong, it was Lon's idea completely. I just clicked on a button, no big deal. Lon IS the man. No questions asked.
