ok well here's the rundown... there's a decent bar and grill really close to the Javits Center called the Gold Rush, western theme (go figure), that is the handiest place to meet...
499 10th Avenue at 38th Street (Just one block East of the Convention Center) 212-244-5165

that's handy, but the Marriott Marquis at Times Square is cool... rotating bar overlooking Times Square, the 'Crossroads of the World' at Broadway and 45th Street...

and the HIPPEST bars are nowhere NEAR Javits, they are downtown... of course! but maybe there will be some occasion to check one or two of them out... Àquien sabe?

here's a LISTING of some of the landmark bars in NYC, most are downtown...

i will post later, probably in the next two days, regarding a likely time to meet up at either the Gold Rush or the Marriott... and maybe plan a field trip or two... heh

i am thinking that perhaps Tuesday evening around 6-7 pm might be a good time... i will keep y'all posted...

I can't tell you all how sorry I am that I won't be meeting you all during MWNY, especially Lon, but i will be back manning the MacNN.com sites during MacWorld, and doing tons of other stuff too.

However, I wish you all the greatest of times, and feel free to share a drink to Team MacNN for me...

BTW, the Gold Rush is pretty weak as far as neighborhood bars go (my best friend lives on 35th, literally down the street from the Javits); go to:

Dave's Tavern, 9th Ave btwn 41st and 42nd, east side of the st;
Tobacco Road, right around the corner on 41st, hiding under the shadow of the Port Authority (but it's a really nice bar);
Mercury Lounge, 45th and 9th Ave, west side of the st, great burgers;

as previously said, all the good stuff is downtown (go to the Ear Inn at Spring and Grenwich, it's my neighborhood bar!)...

Wish I read this b4 today I was at MWNY yesterday (7/19/00), however, I will not be returning untill next year. monte from Team MacNN was there with me too.

I'll check the forum next time!
