Anyone know if the new G4's will be able to crunch twice the amount work units?

cteselle, I'm not sure. But my Dual G4/450 should come in Monday. I'll throw Seti on it and see how it does.

I can't imagine that they programmed to the MacOS MP API, so I would vote no. But you never know...

Chances are your best bet may be running it on MacOS X public beta which will support the new MP machines, and with SMP built-in, you might be able to use some cool tricks to use both processors to do it at once.

BTW, you can't use DP4 (I don't think) cuz it shouldn't support the new motherboards.

I don't think seti will use both processors, however an interesting image appears on apple's multiprocessing page. A G4 and on the display is seti.

Well I canceled my order now.

Fooled you all.

As soon as I get some reports on the dual 450s I'm going to order one. And give my old old old G3 to a friend.

Ps. How do I get seti to run from two diffferent locations with me getting the credit..

You folks with G4s already make me sick to my stomach when I have to see your WU times
What the heck do you need dual processors for?

Of course, if you decide you don't like it, you can give it to me

I get 10 hour WU on my overclocked G3/300 to 400Mhz.

My dual processor G4 450 running seti is on par with the single processor 450's. I can do a w/u in about 5 hours and 5 minutes. So two brains are useless.

dbarton, then your job is to hack the seti program and make it so that it'll run 2 copies simultaneously, one utilizing each processor! ^_^

Actually you can stretch the image to fill the screen by holding the control key when opening the resolutions in the control strip.
