Welcome, I've started this topic to post information about the new RC5 Team MacNN. I hope to every day include the number of units crunched yesterday, a list of our 100 neighbors, and hopefully a listing of our new members and the day they joined.

Grr, I'm the bottom spot, stupid lowly G3-400.
I'm working my mom for a new computer, holding out for dual 733s if they come out in the next month, other wise dual 533s.

If I could leave my G4 alone for more than 18 hours, I might be able to crank out more than just 1200 blocks per day

Time to get ready for work and school. Long day today, so I'm gonna turn off SETI on the G4 and crank up the priority for RC5 to 9. Let's see what this duallie can do floorboarded. Look out OCN

Welcome to Pirate Wesley...Looks like the priority setting had an effect. I climbed 4508 positions yesterday. hehehe. sustained rate of 6160.97 KKeys/sec. ssssmokin'
BTW, I think I recently learned how these guys at OCN can take a 700MHz Athlon and O-C it to 1+GHz, while I could only squeak out an extra 50 MHz from each of my processors. I'm told that AMD makes ONE chip, then cuts jumpers to slow it down. So they aren't really overclocking, they are re-enabling. Moto and IBM make a small enough lot to sort them, AMD and Intel can't sort their chips due to sheer volume. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

doooooooh,
DON"T MAKE MY UNLEASH THE HOUNDS!!!
if I'm not in first place by the weekend, then I'll unleash my fleet on RC5.
Right now my fleet has got me 10,058 WUs in S@H since last July.
I'm warning you, you don't want 40-50 Mkeys/sec shoved down you're throat.
cheers

Nice to know that if we need it, brock has a lot of computing power to spare. I wish I had that much just lying around.
So what kind of machine(s) do you guys have lying around. I have a Power Mac 8500 with a 350 Mhz G4 upgrade, and I normally can do 3 MKeys or 1000 blocks a day.

I have only two Macs. My old 8500 is at work so I don't have to use the PC they provide for anything but e-mail and the web. The 8500 has a G3-400 OC'd to 454(bus is at 56.8 MHz) with 240 MB interleaved EDO, 4 MB VRAM and a P.O.S. iX Micro TT 8MB vid card, a SCSI Zip in the floppy bay and 11 GB of 7200rpm SCSI HD's(a 2 GB and a 9GB)and a bunch of fans to keep everything cool. At home I have a G4 DP500, OC'd to 550 with 1GB RAM, a 45 and a 25 GB HD, both 7200 rpm also, internal zip, Radeon AGP and Orion PCI. RC5 is only running on the G4, so Brock ought to be able to pass me someday...
Jeez dude, I guess you "called out the hounds" on Feb 17-18.. how many Macs you got? I'm headin home soon, and RC5 is gonna drop back down to ~2k/day. I left it alone at max priority for a couple of days just to see what Max for my Mac is. Gotta play some DiabloII, the #1 spot has your name all over it Brock.

I've got RC5 on two of my machines.
The listing of macs is my signature, and I've got a K6-233 linux machine.
RC5 runs on my G3, and runs on my 600MHz P3 at work.
S@H runs on my K6-2-300 at work.
It also runs on my P1-233, but that isn't plugged in anymore.
I'm going to figure out some way to get it plugged in and on the network, but I don't know how yet (Boss will notice if machines just start poping put on the network for no reason, so it needs an excuse.
I'll be rising now that the P3 is kicking in.
It runs about 4 hrs per day.

DAMN.
You a network admin, or do you collect computers on a large scale?
My work machine has Win2k Server, can I set up the service thing so that other comps get RC5 on their comp without them knowing/noticing ever? We are on a peer peer network, this is a temporary comp, but it will be on network always.

I just added my new screamer.
I benchmarked it, and it does 26,949.56 keys/sec.
That's right, 27 thousand keys per second.
I guess every bit counts
I'm trying to get my PC compatibility cards to work, but I don't know if the software is compatible with 8.6, and I don't know how to make networking stuff work for the 7.5.5 machine.
It connects to the net using mactcp thru it's localtalk (printer) port.
Anyone know how to connect to the net using DOS 6.2.2, win 3.1, or win 95?
Also, can I use my PC card with 8.6?
And, last, can I put a PC card from a 6100 in a 7100?

personally, I don't see Brock passing zac4mac, it just doesn't seem likely. Yes, Brock may be a seti god, but is he really committed to the rc5 effort. Maybe yes, maybe no.
Keyser: "Brock, what is best in life?"
Brock: "To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of the women"
Keyser: "That is good."
didn't proof read, might as well give a bonus since you gotta know why it was edited so:
SAM: "What's new, Normie?"
NORM: "Terrorists, Sam. They've taken over my stomach & they're demanding beer."
SAM: "What'd you like, Normie?"
NORM: "A reason to live. Give me another beer."
SAM: "What'll you have Normie?"
NORM: "Well, I'm in a gambling mood, Sammy. I'll take a glass of whatever comes out of that tap."
SAM: "Looks like beer, Norm."
NORM: "Call me Mister Lucky."
WOODY: "What's the story, Mr. Peterson?"
NORM: "The Bobbsey twins go to the brewery. Let's cut to the happy ending."
WOODY: "Hey, Mr. Peterson, there's a cold one waiting for you."
NORM: "I know. If she calls, I'm not here."
SAM: "Beer, Norm?"
NORM: "Have I gotten that predictable? Good."
WOODY: "How's it going, Mr. Peterson?"
NORM: "Poor."
WOODY: "I'm sorry to hear that."
NORM: "No, I mean pour."
SAM: "What's going down, Normie?"
NORM: "My butt cheeks on that bar stool."
WOODY: "Pour you a beer, Mr. Peterson?"
NORM: "All right, but stop me at one. Make that one-thirty."
SAM: "What's the story, Norm?"
NORM: "Boy meets beer. Boy drinks beer. Boy meets another beer."
WOODY: "What's going on, Mr. Peterson?"
NORM: "The question is what's going in Mr. Peterson? A beer please, Woody."
WOODY: "Can I pour you a beer, Mr. Peterson?"
NORM: "A little early isn't it, Woody?"
WOODY: "For a beer?"
NORM: "No, for stupid questions."
See, i think that once brock takes that attitude about rc5, then we will really start to excel as a team.
Oh yeah, if that is too long, especially on OSX release day, lemme know and i'll get rid of it, or if misha reads this and thinks its too long, then feel free to cut down on the content

No offense taken, SBS. I saw the numbers he posted in Feb, pretty impressive. I'm enjoying the spot while I can
I started SETI and joined MacCPU's team, just before wlonh started the team here. I was number 13/13 then, and am 8/42 now. Mostly Macs, but a sprinkling of PC's. Most notably a 40+ headed Athlon Beowulf cluster in Idaho.
This team will get bigger. Look what the SETI team has done.

My Rev B is in denial right now. It's going to find a distant corner of the Internet to hide in for a while. It keeps telling me that it needs companionship (cough,newG4,cough) but a new washer and dryer *somehow* keeps getting put at the top of the family "To Buy" list.

Chris has helped our total, but not our chances of finding the key.
He doesn't do many blocks per day.
I too am waiting for a G4.
I'm holding out for a dual processor 733 for home.
Maybe a quad 1GHz for college

I only did 250 blocks yesterday, should I drop out too? People do what they can with what they've got, and it looks like his usual rate is at least twice what he did yesterday. Besides, it quite a show of moral support to crunch for several years and then throw the whole effort behind a team. Give the guy a break.

That isn't what I'm saying.
I just don't see him as a big deal.
But it is cool to make us ranked much higher.
I may be getting a new machine at work in the next couple of weeks , in addition to the two I have crunching now there, which are a P3 550 and P3 600.
I can't really put SETI on, because it isn't stealthy enough.

Just my luck, I leave town for a couple days and something as big as a new member, with 1.4 million blocks, happens. Great. I guess it's still good to know that stuff does go on without me.
Welcome Chris, thank you for all the blocks. I hope you can get us another million but in less time than before (1200 days)

We are now ranked 1715! Up 3821 places from yesterday. Team MacNN completed 10,865 blocks yesterday at a sustained rate of 33,756 Kkeys/second! Team MacNN is ranked #494 for yesterday! The odds are 1 in 5,012 that this team will find the key before anyone else does.
Our new member is Chris, and he brought 1.4 million blocks, that helps our rank a lot!

Well, in an effort to raise my per day block production I have enlisted a few of my university's machines in the computer lab. So far, I've configured the faceless client on 5 of the 30 G4/400's in the lab. I would have done more but the lab assistants look at you funny when you change machines every couple of minutes. I guess I'll see if it helps. Here's hoping...

Yeah, about those TPS reports, didn't you get the memo?

hey
I'll be donating to your team for a couple days at least...
It's nice that it's not like SETI where if you leave a team all your units go with you. In RC5 you can join a team for just 2 days and have the units you do during those 2 days permanently added to that team's totals.

Ookla, you Chris?
My production time is going to drop.
My G3 is no longer crunching, and may not be up again until monday night.
Also, most of my crunching is done by my two machines at work, and I'm only at work 4 hrs a day
Good and bad.
And I'm not there on weekends.
So my time is going to be nothing fancy for a few days.
Depends on how hard it is to get the hard drive out of my G3.
STUPID FIREWIRE HARD DRIVE NOT WORKING. AHHHH.

Hello Chris.
What machine(s) do you have crunching?
Just out of curiosity, how did you get 100,000 units in one day?
I got my hard drive in, formatting should be done in about 12 or so hours.
Then back to crunching for me.
I wonder if I can get my money back for the firewire case i bought.
