We all know that the next release of MacOS, 9.1 will have even further Altivec optimization (DSP functions among others) than 9.04 currently has. I'm speculating that this could have an effect on Seti at Home. If some more of the math routines have been optimized, the client as is may get a speed boost without any modification of the client itself. Comments? 9.1 isn't slated until Janary I'm told so who knows when we'll have the benefit of trying it.

While I agree that using OS9.1 will most likely yield better results for the 2.0.4 client when compared to using OS9.0.4.. The release of Seti client 3.0 thats more so optimized for the lower backside cache enabled computers would still indicate to me that the release of the updated OS will likely bring speeds back up to par with the new science enabled client for the higher cached machines, this still makes me lean to the theory of 'leveling the play field' for the Mac hardware in specific. Although I believe Seti has stated they won't optimize the client for the Altivec due to the lack of time/labor and resource for everyother processor out there, I still don't see a 3.0 client out there for the windows platform- or am I missing something (I don't own a PC- or have the PC's been doing the extra science all along) ? and will the 3.0 client be mandatory before the release of OS9.1?

Those are my thoughts.

There was a 3.0 client for pc's, i have it running on one of mine. According to seti's homepage http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu ,it has been taken down while they're trying to track down a bug. 3.1 client should be coming out soon.

Ok posters time to let them have it. MacNN Staff It's our duty to let MacNN know we hate intelliTXT!

The 3.0 GUI client for windoze has a memory leak. Like keyser_soze says, there will be a bug-fix 3.1 for windoze soon.
