Nope, not yet, it really all depends on when Radeon is a BTO option...pretty much, currently, i could be running SETI@Home on my dad's beige G3/266, but he is restricting it because previously when i ran it and installed it, something happened to his comp that made it somewhat slow when running some applications (to this very day..i have still not figured out the reason), and because it is his "mothership" computer as it is his office comp, he won't let me touch it ever again...untill...that is, when he gets his new dual G4, so he can transfer his beige G3/266 to his lab, and he gets his G4 system in his office. He doesn't really care what i do with his lab computers because he almost never uses them.

As for the Radeon BTO story, i'm telling him to wait because i convinced him that it would increase his productivity (because he uses photoshop a little bit for photo editing, he's a scientist, he takes pictures of all these plants all the time), but the truth is that i want to play games on his system when he gets it, and a Rage 128 Pro won't cut it. It's true that he could just order it now and then get the card later, but then he'll find out it's a gamer's card, so he wont' get it.

But sooon...when Radeon is a BTO, that is the day that i'll have my other comps running...but it really would suck if it didn't happen at Seybold because then i would either have to wait until January, or live with the inferior built in Rage card.

As for how i convinced my dad to have SETI@Home running on his soon to be new machine, i made a deal with him that if i could help upgrade his 7100 and help him save money on getting his dual G4/500 system...then he would let me run SETI, that is of course, if there are crashes, etc..or if it affects his productivity when writing, which i'm sure probably wont'...

Damn. See this Radeon business not only affects gamers but our Team MacNN as well

But it is cool that you can run SETI on his new comp when he gets it (and play games )

And as long as you don't run it as a background app, it wont affect him in any way.

That's the strange thing though, there is no real good reason why it was slowing down one of his apps, actually it really wwasn't that big of a deal, it just took perhaps 20 percent longer to load and do his work, and that was only for one day, it worked fine before. My dad is just ignorant, that's why he won't let me run it on his comps.

Because it is a dual processor, what would really be nice is after OS X comes out, if he could dedicate one processor to purely running SETI 24/7 and then have the other one for just regular work...since Altivec and MP support for SETI@Home isn't coming anytime soon.
