The most recent rankings were released by SETI on 27 Nov at 10:40 UTC. These were overall rankings, and in those, we were #68 and just above AOL. I guess that means they owe us one.

Adjusting those to club rankings, we become #38. The position loss was due to rnoggin reappearing on the list. Apparently, guru from rnoggin (with about 235K WUs) left last week to get involved in the Sun Microsystems/Ars Technica Lamb Chop/SGI fight for #1 team overall. Guru has since gotten out of that dogfight and rejoined rnoggin. Oy!

Data available indicates that everyone slowed down over the US Thanksgiving holiday, even the non-US groups.

At current rates, we will pass COMETS&CATS!@SETI to regain #37 on 16 Dec. No one else is close enough to pass in the next 30 days.

I thought that if one person is leaving a group, only the new WU will be credited to the new group, the old ones being kept by the former one. On the other hand, personal score will show the total WU done for whatever group. In short, departures can slow down progression but they can't reduce the total already made. Am I wrong?

¿Quién sabe? I think they are changing counting methods while counting continues, but I'm not sure what method the Berkeley people are using.

it seems to seem that when Berkeley did the mega-stat-update a little agao (the much-discussed thing which boosted us 30+k units) they changed their system so that now you carry old units to a new team. will it remain this way for long? ya never know with we Berzerkeleyites

We are #67 in the overall list and pulling away from AOL (as well everyone should ) "rnoggin" has again disappeared from the rankings, so we're again at #37 from the Club Teams list.

The neighborhood (as of 0137 UTC on 01 Dec 2000):

27 Quebec 230737
28 BP6/VP6 User Group 216255
29 Overclockers Network 215893
30 Yahoo SETI Club Team 202053
31 Hungary 199095
32 Royal Astronomical Society of Canada 189452
33 Team Denmark 181328
34 Austin Shaggers 180421
35 Team RUSSIA 178435
36 COMETS&CATS!@SETI 170251
37 Team MacNN 168053
38 Project Blue Book 163594
39 The IsraAliens 162962
40 FurSETI 162279
41 Sluggy Freelance 160962
42 Anime Expo Staff and Friends 156304

At our current rate of 582 WU/d, we'll pass "COMETS&CATS!@SETI" for #36 on 13 December. If we could get another 26 WU/d, we'd pass the Austin Shaggers for #35 on New Year's Eve, but as it stands now, we'l have to wait until 08 January 2001 to pass them.

Bear in mind that the higher we go, the larger the gap between teams and the slower we gain on others. When we get up around #30, we might go three months without passing anyone, but then that would just make passing someone that much sweeter.

Quite possibly the best battle raging between teams is between the Overclockers Network and the BP6/VP6 User Group. Not only are they 362 WUs apart, the Overclockers are losing ground on BP6 at a rate of 7 WU/d (BP6 902 WU/d, Overclockers 895 WU/d). Earlier today, Overclockers were gaining by 12 WU/d.

yeah ... I am going full steam ahead myself. They (BP6/VP6) were the only group that passed us, and they are really two team that merged and have like 600 members.

guru is just having a little fun. He rejoined ars so we could pass Compaq more quickly. Then when we passed Sun he moved the davycroc account to the Sun team so it would be ahead of us again. Then when we passed Sun again he moved himself back to the rnoggin team (which he had created the second time he left ars months ago). When we pass Sun once again he'll move himself back to Sun so we have another 250,000 wu difference to overcome. But after we pass Sun again that will pretty much be the end of the run.

The reason he doesn't join Sun right now is that he's trying to motivate co-workers to up their seti production. They'd have less motivation if he was already there on the team pumping his 2600 wu/day. In response to his shennanigans, two of our members, Antimoses and Krell, have temporarily joined forces to become Antiguru, a 10,000+ wu/day behemoth.

Ah the battle for the top.

But once it's over and well in the bag, I am considering coming back to MacNN to help kick some OCN posterior. But maybe I shouldn't, since I don't know if I'd feel like staying very long.

10,000 WUs per day?!?!?! I am in awe. I have to fight tooth-and-nail to get 2 WU/d out of mine.
