Having a G4 450Mhz AGP, 320MB ram, 30g 7200rpm HD and seeing this thing crunching WU's at 5.5 hours avg, what a waste of processor when it could really spank the 'win' out of wintel. (the 233mhz rev B imac throws my avg off)

So it would seem to me that with all the interest in having a seti@home client that was optimized for the G4 Altivec and G4 MP's that maybe Macnn could set-up a donotaion program. This would enable people to donote money to a 'fund' where the poeple involved with team.macnn.com would vote for a programmer (who applies for it and based on his/her exhibited work) to fly out to SETI and with the help of Metro Works Code Warrior software, assemble and compile a new version of the client for the most popular platforms. Since Seti doesn't have the time or resources to do this on their own, obviously we might be able to generate the resources that can. The only reason that I suggest to fly out there is because they are of integrity and might like to 'over-see' the happenings while being assured of security. I t would also serve as a pro-bonus to 'such' said programmer. This could only happen with the consent of Seti, but I think it might be worth a try.

I've been called crazy before and by no means am I a programmer, but this isn't really far fetched, in my opinion.

People that are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are usually the one's who do

You should be able to get a bit more out of that 450 mhz unit - make sure you've got the G4 cache profiler software from one of the intrepid accelerator manufacturers. Set it so your L2 cache is one faster than it currently is - it should help.
