heyhey, we were back up over 25,000 blocks yesterday. no giant crunchers have joined recently, but even cipher's ~900/day is a very nice addition.
hey misha, what kind of news has to come from distributed.net to warrant a front-page article, get this RC5 team a little press coverage?

Mr Frost-
when dnetc is running, clik "pause" and scroll to the top. see if it says you are crunching RC5 or OGR24 or OGR25. If you're crunching the wrong one, you won't show up when you do an e-mail addy search. Once you find your account, clik the box to have them e-mail your password, it doesn't seem to come automatically. Once you have your password, you can join the team.

we definitely need to get a FAQ written up on this. follow the instructions at <http://www.macevangelist.com/rc5/setup2.html> for setting up the client. you have to return blocks to their server before you'll show up and can get your password, join team macnn, etc.

I am attempting to join up, but I gather it takes a while. By all means, I would encourage any help for new users. Maybe I've got everything setup right, but that program is the epitomie of user unfriendly.
I don't even know if it's gonna start up. We'll see.

Trying to get out of here and go to work, hope this works.
Once you get the client downloaded, go to the "commands" menu and check your settings.
Here are mine.
Make sure you find your e-mail at dnet under RC5, if not, try OGR24 and OGR25 to see if you're crunching them.
More to come, gotta run now.
After you crunch for a day or so, go to the team page and search for your e-mail addy you registered with. At the bottom of that page is a box requesting your password. Once you get your password, you can join the team and change your RC5 user profile.

In the client there are work units and packets but on the web stats they talk about blocks, what are blocks?

Blocks are work units.
Do you remember the company Salix Tech?
Before they got bought out?
I know they were in the town (or is it a city) you are from.

Sorry, never heard of them. FYI Gaithersbrg is a rather large city, about 25 miles north of Washington DC.

Well that wasn't so hard, I guess. Man could they use a GUI, though. Hopefully I'll be on the team shortly. I have an old rev/a iMac and a G3 500 PowerBook, so I'll crunch a thing or two. If I'm not running my carracho server. Baby needs some Money!!
