I have been running os x beta for about 3 days now and have run seti@home on it from the beginning. This is the cli client btw running off a 75GXP drive. I have one small problem, does anyone know how to optimize the client becuase it is dog slow compared to OS9. I average about 5:45/wu (shown here). In OS X Beta, I have been getting extremely slow times, approximately 10+hours per wu. Any help will be appreciated as I am going back to OS 9 till I can speed up seti@home on Beta.

Well, I don't know how to make it faster, But what I do know is, that if you are using your computer while running the CLI seti, the WU times do not varry too much as compared to not using the computer. Where as in OS 9, the times can get crazy if you are trying to use the computer. Not to mention it gets sluggy.

I have been using the text client under X Beta. The one WU time I figured up took 9+ vs 8- under OS 9, about an hour and a half longer.

But I can let SETI run in the background while surfing, and that increases my output.

My opinion is that the text client takes longer because it is not running from a RAM disk. We do not yet have the X Memory CP. It might be possible to set up a RAM disk in Classic and run the text client there using an alias to point to the data folder, but I do not have enough memory to try that configuration. And that RAM disk would not be under X's crash protection. Bye - bye, nearly completed WU...

If anyone knows how to set up a persistent RAM disk under X, please post. I would like to speed up the text client, and reduce HD access.
