The link to the new OS X version for Folding@Home can be found here!
If you don't know what Folding@Home is, check out http://fah.stanford.edu
I'm on Arstechnica Team Egg Roll, but I assume that if you want to run this program you'll want to start your own new team. Do this by putting (Team MacNN) after your name. (Spelling and capitalization is important!)
so when you first run the client, type ./fahclient.exe -config
then when it asks your user name, type
brock76 (Team MacNN)
or whatever your name is... or if you want to join Ars you can type (Arstechnica Team Egg Roll)
Then after it's configured, type ./fahclient.exe to run it.
Yes I know the .exe on there is blasphemous...the PandeGroup people have a bit to learn about mac programming...
Client output is a little strange at the moment...you have to look at scrlog.txt to see what protein you are running, and how many dynamic steps it will take to fold it.
For people who want to do distributed computing but aren't convinced that seti or rc5 are worthwhile, folding@home is the way to go.

No, not another one!
Well I'm not running it.
Mainly cuz OSX pissed me off too much and I took it off.

Ditto Scott, on another client and OS X.
I have 2 Macs; one does S@H, the other does RC5.
It's cool there's another client for Macs, tho.
Hey Ookla, just throw one of your slow macs on the MacNN team and give a little at a time.(or you could come back for a day or two again and zap us with another 90k )

Maybe after this mess with the main page and stuff is done, newsfactor will update us.
I requested it.
If we get a distributed computing forum, then we can expand more as we get more members.
I've got all 5 of my machines crunching, my 3 work machines, my dad's NT server at work, and his home machine.
Maybe after I get two more machines I'll be able to run F@H.
I guess that when I get OSX on a new desktop, I could setup cron to run it for a few hours per day.
It depends on how my competition with a friend over crunching SETI and RC5 goes.
I'm barely holding a lead over him in SETI, 6 maybe 7 blocks ahead, and I'm catching up to him in RC5.
If I can stay ahead and have extra power, I don't see why F@H can't get a little.

I don't have OSX (yet ). I can't run F@H, but I would be interested in MacNFN having a team. Anyone want to volunteer making one?

A MacNN team for F@H sounds good to me, but I'll have to wait until a OS 9.1 F@H comes out to join. I'm sure they will have a OS 9.1 or earlier version available soon. My guess is that a OS X version was easier for them to do and so that's why it's out first.

I can make one using my Win98 machine.
If there is enough demand, I'll make it, but I won't be a cruncher for a while.
My competition with my friend over SETI/RC5 is going to take a turn for the worse next week, as I lose a 400MHz G3 processor that is one of my teachers comps.
It isn't on in the summer.
So a new machine (Ti book) will have to compensate for that loss.

I created a team for us.
It is <yourname> (Team MacNN)
Note caps and all, it is important.
And don't forget the parenthesis.
So, lets kick some collective butt.
