Hate to disappoint those with theories on turncoat moderators and such, but I don't have any garbage to contribute to matters like that.

Sometime about 1000 UTC today we will hit the 200,000 workunit mark.

Those with deep pockets should consider getting some of those dual-600 G4s Uncle Steve will be showing off at MacWorld next week. And sent me your old machines

Danometer, please email/AIM/ICQ me. I do not wish to be posting rival Team updates. It looks bad.

Dang. Be glad you're not TLC. We have just lost almost 1,000,000 WU in the last 2 days. Yesterday we lost the #1 and #4 and #5 person on the team. today we lost the new #1, #2, and #3. Holy freak.

KWSN is a good team to join now...seems like everyone is doing it...

OoklaTheMok, thanks for that info. Misha has pointed out that people were probably moving around, and I hoped that was the case with The IsraAliens. I had no clue that a whole bunch of people were switching. Some folks with heavy numbers are moving around, and messing up plenty of team stats. Since the last update two days ago, The IsraAliens have lost 11,000 units, one or more people near the top have apparently left and The IsraAliens are much further behind us again. I found an Ars thread (seventh post down) mentioning someone called "hanser" who had temporarily jumped to The IsraAliens. Also, Nordlichter is ahead of us again by about 4,000 units. They were behind in the Club Teams listing, but ahead in their more current stats page. I missed that somehow. Either people regularly join & leave Nordlichter, or SETI has a problem updating the stats on that team. Wish we could get far enough ahead of them to let other teams worry about Nordlichter's erratic stats.

Our output over the weekend has been lower than our latest average. DSL Reports #41 has added 1,500 units per day over the weekend, somewhat slower than predicted. OcUK #48 has added 6,000 units per day over the weekend, twice as fast as predicted. Looks like people are moving around there also.

On a side note, the DSL Reports SETI Forum has a post listing Team MacNN as one of several "juicy targets" to roll over. BTW: DSL Reports SETI Forum is currently having an OCN-like feud with OcUK, with cross-forums posting and thumbing noses at each other. This locked thread seems to have been the starting point.

Well, they won't beat us if I manage to assimilate my school (I've got 3 machines so far).

I wonder if people would notice if the computer labs started crunching SETI?

It's pretty likely that they would. Besides, with how often lab machines get trashed, wiped, and reinstalled, it probably wouldn't last long. Also, there's probably something in the Seti user agreement about only running it on machines that you have permission to admin. Whether or not they'd actually come after you, I don't know. Prob'ly better to convert your friends first.

I used to be sysadmin for my school.
Never while in that position did we wipe the drives.
They don't do the netware bitching thing.
I'm gonna try and do it, but these machines are so slow it will takes weeks per unit.

yeah, hanser went to bug Israel for a little while but he's back at ars. We also had someone leave a while back after we passed Sun, to go to OcUK. Thankfully our 250k wu-person Support AIDS Research rejoined today...

MacNN needs to pimp this team more on the front page. Whenever Ars gets front-page mention, a bunch of people join the team. Membership jumps here and there really add up.

Oh also be very careful about running in schools. Xanrel on Ars got suspended and fined like $3000 when his teachers found out he was running seti at his school. And he didn't do any damage at all. Actually, I'm not sure if he was able to wiggle out of the punishment or not, which was overly harsh, but it's a good idea to be careful anyway.

I run on about 15 PCs and 15 macs that I have permission to run on. And sometimes some I don't.

Well, I've got all the proxy server info, and I'm gonna put it on one machine at a time.
I've been yelled at by one teacher, but that was just because he forgot that he gave me permission.
I'll see what happens.
