ah, thank you very much kind sir!

perhaps you can help me with my next problem....

i have a 6500/225 in the closet......but no monitor to view it on....
its a powermac and has 64MB RAM, so I want to make it a SETI machine.....but how with no monitor...? im on a reallllllllly tight budget and can't afford a new monitor.......even buying a used on would be pushing it......
i would connect them with eithernet and stuff.....but the plug on the tower fits a phone size jack (it has six wires inside) will this still work? if so how.......
would it be worth networking it to the iMac? i don't even know what the avg. time for those machines are.....

any suggestions?

You only need a monitor to set it up so see if you can borrow one from a friend for a couple of hours.

Enable the SETI screensaver after 1 minute and set SETI to connect to the net automatically. Then set Remote Access to automatically connect to the net and disconnect after 2 minutes of no activity. Then shut down the Mac, remove the monitor and restart.

If you are still using 3.0, you might also consider adding the freeware "Okey Dokey Pro" which will say OK to the "You have to get 3.0.3 if you want to continue using SETI" dialog box, but you will have to redo the monitor thing later when they no longer support 3.0 and you are forced to go to 3.0.3

Your 225MHz machine would be about 30 hrs per unit.
That is with 3.03.
it should be ethernet though.

It seemed that the concensus in these forums was not to use
LibMotosh on any PPC running at least MacOS 8.5,
loss of precision vs tiny gain.

Well anyway let us know if your times improve.

I have an old 14" Apple monitor (non-multisync) that I was gonna throw out. Dunno if it will work with your system, but will give it to ya for shipping costs. Let me know if interested.

There was never any proven concensus that LibMotoSh undermined a machines
mathematical accuracy. The only griping I really heard revolved around
"did it really make a difference or not"? Given that 9.04 and 9.1 have
enhanced Altivec performance, on those machines perhaps LibMotoSh have
diminishing reasons for being there. However, I did find that under the
last ZDNET benchmarking software that LibMotoSH did indeed make an
alleged difference.

However, what made a bigger difference was the Newer Technology cache
control program whereupon I increased my level 2 cache's speed from 199
mhz to 265.7 mhz and that shaved 15 minutes off of my average time for
work unit completion on Seti. Significant. It also took my average
for RC5 significantly.

So, if you have to remove LibMotoSh, find and install the cache control
program or the G3/G4 Strip control panel. Better yet,add both.

I tested LibMotoSh here. The test was done on a G4 with OS 9. I can't say anything about LibMotoSh on a G3 or earlier, please see Danometer's tests for those results.
