i installed RC5 on a G4/867 today and the user of the machine reports back to me lots and lots of problems. i'm running the faceless app and it seems to crash the machine. he's encountered crash after crash. he's pretty much isolated it to RC5 since it's a brand new machine (9.2.1, 512MB RAM, etc..) and when he disabled RC5 faceless, all the problems went away.

anybody encountered anything similar? it's using the most recent version of RC5 available. i'm not sure if the standard client would cause the same problems, but i'd prefer to be able to use the faceless app without worrying about crashes.

I don't know about crashing problems, but the latest version of the client won't recognize the 7450 processors in 867's. Try using the 2nd most recent version of the client, that should still use the crunch-vec and hopefully stopt the crashing problems.

there's a beta version of dnetc, 470, I believe, that people are using on the newest machines, which, as I understand, is working better than current versions of dnetc... hope it helps

I downloaded the 470 version. I was cranking out some serious numbers, like 8.4MKeys/sec per processor (16.8MKeys total). Only problem is that the stupid thing keeps locking up my system. Hard freezes. Can't force quit or anything. Did it three times, so it's back to the older version for me. I'll play with it more when I have a bit more time.
Yeah, about those TPS reports, didn't you get the memo?

Indeed I did. It was just a preliminary report. I'm going to try and spend some more time figuring out exactly what the problem is in a couple of days. Geez, 16MKeys/sec... I want it bad...

Been having same prob on my new 867 - but I'm glad at least that it isn't a hardware/heat issue.

I'm trying build 470 now - the speed difference is massive! - let's see how long it lasts...

I'm using this version on several G4's (faceless) without any problems so far (except a few days ago it froze one machine while trying to connect to the proxy, seems the proxy was down or our network).

I tried this version too. It hosed my dnetc install in 9. It seemed to freeze when I did a fetch. Yeah, that's just great, able to do lots of work but not get new packets. Now even after blowing away the app and all prefs related to it, a fresh install won't work properly even after a desktop rebuild. I don't sweat it though.

I've been running dnetc in X since. I lose some speed but at least I'm able to send some packets in. Anyone have an idea when the next X client is being released? If they're able to crank out 16.8MKeys/sec in 9, they should be able to do better in X. Best I've seen in my X install is 13MKeys/sec and change. Best I saw in my 9 install prior to problems was about 14.16MKeys/sec. That extra MKey adds up over time If I gave it a higher priority do you think it would get more MKeys/sec? The 13MKeys/sec is idle with nothing else running. Well, besides the X processes that are built in. I just want to see my processor time not get wasted That's why I was unhappy with the first X client that didn't support my processor
