I just received a brand new QuickSilver 733 and wanted to pump RC5 onto it. However, when I run RC5 and do the benchmark, it tells me that it can't detect the CPU:

"Automatic processor type detection did not recognize the processor (tag: "0xb")"

I've tried manually setting the dentc.ini file for "core=3", but it still gives the above error when trying to cruch.

Anyone know what the deal is?

It may be because it is the 7440 chip. Watch for a new client to come out, or email distributed.net and ask about it.

In the meantime, you can still crunch using a non altivec core.
Sorry that I can't say anything better, maybe someone else will have some better info.

Are you a current team member (shows how aware I am)?
If not, welcome to the team.

I'm dragging this one back from the ether a bit, but just noting that the OSX dnet client fails to detect the processor in my new 867Mhz G4 and therefore refuses to use the Altivec core - even the latest beta build falls flat on its face. Oh well.

I'm glad then that I got my grandparents a 533.
It does use crunch vec.

Email distributed.net and make sure they are aware of this.
This is not good for us mac users, because our power is in altivec, not sheer numbers.

Try running the program and selecting option 3, then option 1. Select core 3.
See if that works.
It should.

Well, I took a look at the pre-release software, and I think I found something.
http://www.distributed.net/download/prerelease.html

The Darwin version, when set to core 4, seems to recog the G4 in my 733!!! Wooohooo!!!
