I started using SUM 3.3 and ram disk on my G3-400 and my PM8500-120, and their times have gone up.

Does anyone know why this is? I would think that the tiny bit of processor time used by SUM would be offset by the ram disk.

Try using a RAM Disk WITHOUT SUM, and see how your results go.

I don't use sum while crunching, but it's handy to use to download a stack of units one after the other and then just keep them on your hard drive.

if you not going to use SUM, don't forget to backup your units every now and then. A crash would wipe them from the RAM disk, or have an old unit there that has already been completed.

SUM auto backs up wus, which is good, because when i did use a ram disk once before, my machine locked up, and i lost 2 units.
If I run without SUM, I can't really use the ram disk, because i lock up my comp sometimes.
What I want is a script that can run without using processor time(except when doing its job) to backup from a ram disk.
I've got OS9.0.4 and 8.6
