I intend to be the #1 ranked RC5 cruncher for the day.
I intend to stay at this rank.
I intend to do this within the next two weeks.

TRY AND STOP ME
Or, in other words, crunch harder
My way of achieving this goal?
Well, I'll say later

Well, it looks like you could pass me with the addition of a single other computer. A single new G4 to your stack could take the top spot. Hmm.. what can I throw together to catch you... hmm..
Right now I'm using
G4/400/AGP tower
cube/450
cube/450

Well.. here's my deal. if you take the top spot I'll do what I can to oust you hee hee.

Deal.

But can you do it without reducing your SETI crunch rate?
I've got at least 9 comps crunching RC5 now.
I've also got at least 4 comps crunching SETI, but only one is 24/7.
I'm hoping to get more on SETI.

Don't you have a SETI account?
If so, get those iMacs on it.
If not, make one and get those iMacs on it.

It took me a few extra days, but I've achieved my goal.
I'm not sure if I can stay there though.
The comps running RC5 keep crashing , and I can't reboot em.
I guess I need to put in case fans.

Maybe I will stay there.
If the other guy who works on the comps leaves the email address alone, I might be able to get enough blocks per day to stay on top. SETI wasn't working out on one of the comps, so I just put RC5 on it.
So far today I've put out 5133 blocks, but I've got 3.5 hrs left. I wonder if I can get 7000 again. I should be able to.

Don't twist my idea though.

I only put it on computers in dorms that are owned by students, and only with their explicit permission, and I show them how to take it off.
And I've only got 3 comps running it.
Be careful.

I only intend to run it on my suitemates computers and such. I won't run it on machines I am not allowed to.

Also, WOW Docwest! You had another great day. Where do these things come from. I doubt in the next five hours I'll crunch enough to pass you, again. I'll need another day. Enjoy this while it lasts.

Also, Also, is anyone else competing like DocWest and I? It'd be fun to watch.

Well those two big totals were actually my bomb from the weekend, but they got split over two days.

But it looks like you're crunching a little bit more than me at the moment.
How long can I last against your G4 power?!

BUT - ha ha I'm winning at the moment.

I defintiely do want to race...but I'm having a hard time setting up a network in my new apartment....it was so nice being on campus before..but soon soon...anyways...maybe we can have a 4-way race rather than just 2 2-way races?? Not sure if our totals are sorta the same..so we might have to modify it from a race to 750,000 to maybe like individual day total or percentages?

I'm definitely trying to get all my crap set up..so...

Anyone wanna buy me a new computer??

Well I cant speak for SkiBikeSki, but I certainly do not have a chance in hell of racing you two bigshots. I am flat out getting 1000 units a day.

I am not sure that I even want to race with SBS, because frankly his G4 scares me
But seriously, I'm game to have a little competition. That is, if SBS thinks he can keep up with my phat G3 power

hmm.. I've been away for a while. Good going scott. I think I have a hope of adding 40% or so to my rate but I'm cranking with three G4s now, two full time and one about 60% of the day. I have two iMacs and a Athlon 1000 available that are not running the software. Is there a screen saver for OS 9 available that will run RC5? I want to make it so that the client is not running at all if the computer is in use.

Get those darn iMacs on SETI.
Otherwise I'm going to pass you in SETI within the next month or two.

Besides, they aren't that good on RC5.

There is a freeware screensaver program called MacDim that lets you run an application when it fades, and quits it when the computer is in use again. You can use this.

Hey loser (by loser I mean loser to Scott in the race...and maybe even me one day once I get going again) You will NEVER win the contest, your chance is ridiculous, sure it's some, but most likely you won't, unless you had a ton of G4s or something like that. SO, the smart thing would be to join our team, so that you can help us in our upcoming TEAM RACE with some other dude...it's on the webpage..anyways..just an idea...who knows..maybe our team will crack it, and then you'll feel like an @ss b/c on our team, you would have at least gotten a few bucks...sux g. :o

yo - I008

You've been on these boards a long time, join us.
You've got better odds of winning a lotto than this prize...
Besides if you win you still get a grand, which is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

my odds of winning the lottery are what, a million to one?
"The odds are 1 in 6,613 that this participant will find the key before anyone else does." Those are pretty damn good odds, and i get faster and faster every day. And its already been decided that if teamMacNN wins, it is going to keep the $1000. So its either join you guys and maybe get a $1000, or not join you guys and have an equal chance of getting $2000.

Besides it will be so much better to watch you guys beg me to join once I surpass scott's data rate, and total blocks. Why I almost have as many blocks as him already, but of coarse I won't pass him until i can do more blocks.

Me wonders what his email address is for RC5.
Me laughs at the thought of being beat.
Me wonders why he is too petty to join our team and help the greater good.
Me realizes me is speaking in the third person again, so me wanders off to put RC5 on more comps.

Wow thats pretty cool! You're got some impressive toys on your server Macnn. Is it run on many machines or just one, like say a single DP800 or something? it does ALOT of work manning all teh forums and things like this little battle!

But as for the battle..........
I say you just let it run until I start spanking the bag out of scott, then you can stop it.

Dude, even I could spank you if I really wanted to..I could easily bring my crunch rate up, and spank your little monkey..so just join our team man. You aren't going to win, and your little "one in six thousand or so chance" makes you seem like in dumb and dumber, where he's all excited about the chance that he will be with that chick from aspen. Are you that desperate and lack that much of a life as in that movie? Anyways, don't be <deleted>, join our team, and help fellow macs users flatten out this plump guy or whatever his name is.

Maybe before you open your mouth, you would look through what I have crunched in the past, and see that the 8k blocks I pumped out was only a start, but then I gave up. Maybe if you'd look at that, and think about it, you wouldn't open your mouth and remove all doubt that you are a fool. So what do you do, sit at your computer, and just watch the dots add up on the rc5 client as they head towards 100%? Thinking to yourself...."Yes yes yes, I'm going to win with this block, I just know it..yesyes...I can taste the $2,000 right now!" Come one, just get realistic. None of us are in this rc5 to really win the money, although I'm sure none of us would mind winning, I don't think a single one of us is doing it solely for that purpose. I think more so we want to promote the mac platform by showing it's power in the rc5 competition, which is the whole point of this race we have starting very shortly. So, the reason I said what I said before, isn't to make fun of you, but rather to try and get you to join, because in my opinion, this is all about advertising the mac platform..and what a better way than to toast this plump guy with a bunch of macs vs. his bunch of peecees or whatever. But, I guess you just don't get that point, you're more concerned with yourself, and the money you're "going" to win. Do yourself a favor, actually take a look at all the individuals that are ahead of you in terms of production per day, and total blocks done. Look at the guys who have a chance of like 1 in 30 that they will crack the code...those are the people who need be worrying about making the money..not you..unless you plan on crunching 500,000+ blocks a day, which I'd give your $2,000 myself if you could ever do that. Point is, you won't, so just join the team, and help us change this guy's mind as to the power of the mac platform. It will only help us in the future, by spreading and popularizing the mac. Hey, if more people bought macs, I'm sure they'd be much cheaper, and hey, that means more macs for us on the same budget. So, grow up, and just join.

PS - Scott, I take offense that you delete my message, which I can't remember what I wrote in that one place, but it was nothing like what was written in the message I replied to. That is what you should be deleting. I've seen much worse things on the MacNN forums that what I wrote, and if I remember correctly, I wasn't even using a slang word, but instead a proper scientific description, so please, don't do that again, as I don't feel it was justified. Thanks.

It was justified.

This thread is hopelessly off topic.
