On SETI 2, it was 17-21 hours, SETI 3 started at 28-32 hours, but for about 2 months, it is now in the 48-55 hours range. That is odd as my hard disk is defragmented regularly, the only changes were installations of MacOS 9.1 and recently MacOS 9.2.1.
iMac rev.B 233 MHz, 64 MB RAM, VM set at 128M. (I precise that MacOS + SETI don't go over 64M memory use)

It is most likely your virtual memory that is doing it.
Also, make sure the screen saver it set to blank after one minute.
